Flickerfest screens the best short films from Australia and the world in a unique and relaxed summer environment, under the stars at Australia’s famous Bondi Beach. After the Sydney festival Flickerfest tours to 50+ venues around Australia. As Australia’s only Academy® accredited short film festival Flickerfest celebrates the latest in cutting edge shorts from around the world.

Flickerfest 21st International Australian Short Film Festival
Bondi Pavilion, Bondi Beach, Sydney, Australia
6th –15th January 2012, then touring nationally from January to March 20112
Flickerfest, Australia’s only Academy® Award accredited and BAFTA recognised Short Film festival, and its largest short film competition, is accepting entries from around the world, for the 2012 Festival, celebrating 21 years of the best short films from around the world.  Flickerfest will screen for 10 days at Bondi Beach in January 2012 before heading off on a national tour..

For 2012, the Festival will have five competitive programmes

  • International
  • Australian
  • Documentary
  • GreenFlicks – for films with an environmental focus or theme – open to films from anywhere in any genre.
  • FlickerUp - Australian school students / under 18 years competition

As well as a number of special showcases and forums out of competition.

The FLICKERFEST International Competition is open to any short film available for screening on 35mm or digital betacam . The Australian, Documentary and GreenFlicks Competitions are open to any short film available for screening on 35mm or Betacam video.  The National School Student competition is open to films available for screening on 35mm print, digibeta tape and DVD
An international jury will award the following prestigious awards and prizes:  

  • The Flickerfest Award for Best Short Film (Academy® Accredited)
  • Yoram Gross Award For Best Animation Short Film (Academy® Accredited)
  • FlickerfestAward for Best Australian Short Film
  • National Geographic Award for Best Short Documentary Film
  • Icebergs Dining Room and Bar Award for Best Direction in an Australian short film

plus a host of other Awards and Industry prizes

Films must be under 35 minutes & have been completed within 2 years of the closing dates.

Films must be in English or have English subtitles. Due to the competitive nature of the Festival, Flickerfest prefers NSW premieres and films that have not been broadcast or made available for download in Australia.

Australian entries must be submitted on-line by 5pm, FRIDAY 16th SEPTEMBER 2011
International entries must be submitted on-line by 5pm, FRIDAY 23rd SEPTEMBER 2011
GreenFlicks entries must be submitted on-line by 5pm, FRIDAY 7th OCTOBER 2011
FlickerUp entries must be submitted on-line by 5pm, FRIDAY 14th OCTOBER 2011
