Strong start for Fantasporto : the audience is back

After an opening of a great show and a lot of public that almost filled the Rivoli and where xxxHOLIC was shown in the world premiere in an Official Session preceded by an intervention by Beatriz Pacheco Pereira, founder and co-director of Fantasporto with Mário Dorminsky, a room with about than 500 people saw or rewatched Ridley Scott's BLADE RUNNER, in celebration of its 40th anniversary of its European premiere in 1982, also at FANTASPORTO, but in the old Carlos Alberto, room that hosted the Festival for about 15 years.

This weekend there is a lot of good cinema unpublished in Portugal, which includes six of the films in the World and European Premiere to be shown, makes Fantasporto, a rare luxury "bubble" for the new world cinema, in Porto, something that welcomes around 40 foreign journalists who seek to see, first of all, the films to be shown in order to talk about them around the world.

This surprise for many, a real slap for many in Portugal, elevates the festival to a level identical to competitions like Cannes, Venice or Toronto, an unprecedented situation in Portugal.
But let's go to the movies. In the Grand Auditorium of Rivoli the day begins with a European premiere that will be presented by its producer, It is The Laws of the Universe – The Age of Elohim Isamu by the Japanese Imakake, the second film coming from Japan), to be shown. It is a film adapted from a famous manga or comic book, as they say in Portuguese. an Anime, the name given to animated cinema. Intended mainly for the youngest, it is shown at
4 pm.
Far beyond industrialized Japanese animation, this film takes us to see a careful and beautiful animation but still in the manga spirit. Yaizael is sent to protect Earth. The proverbial struggle between Good and Evil in the era of defending our planet and its beauty. Contest in the Fantastic Cinema section.

At 18:15, the contest in the Directors' Week section shows an almost Portuguese film from our neighbor Galicia, presented by its director and two of its protagonists, JACINTO. It deals with the peaceful life of a Galician village when it is shaken by the arrival of a local daughter and a Swedish friend, both belonging to a “heavy metal” band. For Jacinto, a young man with a mental disability who believes in the priest of the land, they are the devil himself. This film won the Panorama Section Audience Award at the Sitges Festival and the Jury Prize at the Austin Festival.
At the beginning of the night the horror film "The House" by Rick Ostermann, German is also the first of the films of this Science Fiction Fantas to be shown. In Germany in 2029, a star journalist banned from writing, having fallen from grace, and his wife take refuge in their home on the island that has advanced technology and where they think they are safe. As the political situation worsens, the house transforms from a safe haven into a powerful adversary. A realistic image of a technological future that uses progress for much more ancient purposes, the manipulation of power.

At 11 pm, at 3 pm, the new film by the winner of last year's Fantasporto Grand Prix appears, at the World Premiere, in competition in the Fantastic Cinema Section. This is Takashi Shimizu's "Ox–Head Village", the third Japanese film to screen at the Festival. A horror movie, with eventually shocking scenes for some audience. Some young students go to an abandoned building to broadcast to their followers on the net. A dull prank made to one of them is the starting point to reveal a story of horrors and the discovery of ancient customs.

In the SMALL AUDITORIUM we will have the following program in the afternoon and from
4.15 pm:
"Riku" by Masatsugu Arakawa of Japan a children's animation in World Preview. A work that prepares children for the loss of a pet. Riku is a puppy found thin and shaking. This is The Good fanter, the fifth Japanese film to be shown, directed by Sho Kataoka, one of Horror branch. Doctor Shiro Kubo, whose family suffered a major car accident, leaving his wife in a coma, is called in to treat a mysterious illness. The daughter is suspicious of her mother when she finally leaves the hospital. Who is the woman who plays her mother? A father has to do everything to bring peace to the family.

In the evening comes another world premiere of Ms Lupine a.k.a. Hideki Takeuchi's Daughter of Lupine a Fantastic Comedy.
Fun cinema, lots of action and burlesque delirium that pays homage to the dramas between criminal families, but also to Japanese anime. A family of thieves knows that their patriarch intends to retire, but there is still the final blow: the theft of the real Habsburg crown. Because the fake one they already stole. For that, everyone has to come to Europe. Robberies of Arsene Lupin, the celebrated French thief, but in manga style.
