The Latvian capital Riga has just joined the European Film Academy’s YOUNG AUDIENCE AWARD as the ninth participating city in this year’s second edition of the initiative for young film-lovers. This Sunday is Young Audience Film Day: On 5 May the three nominated films will simultaneously be screened to a young audience in nine different cities across Europe. The nominated films THE SUICIDE SHOP by Patrice Leconte (France/Belgium & Canada), UPSIDEdown by Bernd Sahling (Germany) and THE ZIGZAG KID by Vincent Bal (the Netherlands) will be screened to a 12-14-year-old audience in Copenhagen (Denmark), Erfurt (Germany), Izola (Slovenia), London (UK), Riga (Latvia), Sofia (Bulgaria), Turin (Italy), Valletta (Malta) and Wroclaw (Poland). The young cinephiles will spend the entire day in a cinema - between the screenings, they will have the opportunity to discuss the films and at the end of the day they will elect their favourite. In a truly European vote, jury speakers will then transmit the national results live via Skype video conference to Erfurt (Germany) where German entertainer and TV host Ben (pictured) moderates the award ceremony. From 20.00 hrs CET on, you can follow the ceremony with our live stream and find out who the winner of the EFA Young Audience Award 2013 is on yaa.europeanfilmawards.eu. The whole day will be documented by video crews and clips of the Young Audience Film Day will soon be online! Video interviews with the nominated directors Vincent Bal (THE ZIGZAG KID), Patrice Leconte (THE SUICIDE SHOP) and Bernd Sahling (UPSIDEdown) are already available online! This year’s second edition of the EFA Young Audience Award is realised with a network of the following nine partners: BFI British Film Institute, Danish Film Institute, Deutsche Kindermedienstiftung Goldener Spatz (Germany), Latvian Film Centre, MEDIA Desk Malta, National Cinema Museum (Italy), New Horizons Association in Wroclaw (Poland), Otok Institute for developing film culture (Slovenia) and Sofia International Film Festival (Bulgaria). 03.05.2013 | European Film Awards's blog Cat. : Call for entry
