The 16th round of Asian Film Awards has today on 6 Jan, 2023, released the list of nominees in 16 categories, with Mohsen Tanabandeh a runner-up for the Best Actor prize for his role in Houman Seyyedi's World War III, reports CineIran. Tanbandeh also previously received such an honor in the Horizons section of the 79th International Venice Film Festival and Los Angeles International Film Festival. The company Iranian Independents run by Mohammad Atebbai is in charge of the international distribution of "World War III". The prestigious Asia Film Awards is a cinematic event that was founded in 2013 by three film festivals namely Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Busan. The awards ceremony will be held on 12 March, 2023 in Hong Kong. The list of nominees includes 81 titles with 30 films from 22 countries, with the Korean movie "Decision to Leave" directed by Park Chan-Wook and its 10 nominations leading the 16th Asian Film Awards. Best Film nominees are the following: "Decision to Leave" - Korea, "Drive My Car" - Japan, "Poet" - Kazakhstan, "Ponniyin Selvan: Part I" - India, "When the Waves Are Gone" - Philippines, The Best Director nominees also feature the figures listed below: Hirokazu Kore-Eda for "Broker" - Korea, Park Chan-Wook for "Decision to Leave" - Korea, Ryusuke Hamaguchi for "Drive My Car" - Japan, Darezhan Omirbayev for "Poet" - Kazakhstan, Davy Chou for "Return to Seoul" - Cambodia, Bahman Ghobadi and Vedat Yildirim have also received a nomination in the Original Music category for "The Four Walls," a joint production of Turkey and the UK. The prominent Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yi-Mou presides over the jury for this edition of Asian Film Awards.
