WINDA Film Festival returns this fall in Sydney giving a voice to indigenous cinema
Bringing indigenous voices from all over the globe to the silver screens of Sydney, WINDA Film Festival, returns for its second year, from Thursday 23 – Monday 26 November 2017. After a widely successful inaugural year, the 2017 Festival will screen at Event Cinema George Street, Sydney. WINDA Executive Director Medika Thorpe said, ‘I am very happy we were able to bring Winda back this year and to present another year of incredible Indigenous film and filmmakers from across Australia and around the world to Sydney audiences.” Last year’s Festival showcased six feature films and four documentaries alongside 22 short films from more than eight countries, including 14 Australian premieres and one World premiere. Winda also featured two free Black Talks and Virtual Reality experiences and guests and artists travelled from all around Australia, the South Pacific and as far as Canada and USA to be a part of the event. Finding a new home in the heart of Sydney’s CBD, WINDA is honoured to be partnering with Event Cinema George Street which is home to many film festivals within Sydney, year round. “Event Cinemas is thrilled to be partnering with WINDA Film Festival. A festival that travels to many stories that reflect our past, present and future in relationship with the Australian Indigenous community and how the tapestry of these stories contribute to our understanding of the significant imprint the traditional owners of the land have had and still have within our society today,” said Anthony Kierann Area General Manager of Event Cinemas. The full 2017 Festival program will be announced in the coming weeks.
