Village International D-Cinema Festival 2007 selection

Village International D-Cinema Festival 2007
The official selection films

Eight international feature films, 13 international short films and four Portuguese short-films: the movies of the Village International D-Cinema Festival (VIDCF) 2007 official competitions are already chosen and represent 19 hours of screenings.

Eleven countries are represented on the official selection out of the more than 40 that submitted films to VIDCF 2007. USA, UK and Italy are on both of the two international competitions. Greece, Denmark, Belgium, Canada and Spain are part of the “International Short Film” category and Pakistan and Argentina show productions at the “International Feature Film” section. Concerning the Portuguese ones, the directors with selected films for the “Portuguese Spoken Short Film Competition” are João Guerra, with “3 Walkers”, Tiago Carvalho, with “The Law of Others”, Vitor Santos, with “Ctrl Alt Fly” and Artur Serra Araújo, with “Cold”.
At the International Feature Film Competition will be competing “Infinite Justice”, by Jamil Dehlavi (Pakistan), “Approaching Union Square”, by Marc Meyers (USA), “Fuel”, by Michael Nash (USA), “Really”, by Daniel Mitelpunkt (UK), “Olga, Victoria Olga - Un tiempo sin tiempo”, by Mercedes Farriols (Argentina), “Diggers”, by Katherine Dieckmann (USA), “Road to Victory”, by Mike Reilly (USA), “Quijote”, by Mimmo Paladino (Italy) and “Pretty in the Face”, by Nate Meyer (USA).
Regarding the international short films, besides the Portuguese “The law of others” and “3 Walkers”, which compete at the two categories, the films that will be shown in competition are “The Famous Joe Project”, by Eli Rarey (USA), “Single Bed”, by George Kouvaras (Greece), “AfterLife”, by Lana Garland (Denmark/USA), “La sortie”, by Franka Joel (Belgium), “Out Of Mind”, by Margaret King (USA), “Foku-Fuoco Sporco”, by Cláudio Bozzatello (Italy), “Moi”, by Yan England (Canada), “One Last Drink Before Morning”, by JD Kelleher (UK), “Disconnected”, by Paulo Demello (USA), “The Red Front”, by Adam Goudchaux (USA), “Taxímetro – Medida Mecânica Del Tiempo”, by Frederico Miranda (Sapin), “Nobody’s Perfect”, by Leon Chambers (UK) and “Belinda’s Swan Song”, by Alicia Witt (USA).
Concerning the selection process, Salvato Telles de Menezes, President of the Lisbon Village Festival (LVF), remarks: “The significant number of submitted works and the good quality of many of them was an extremely positive surprise, but it was also the main difficulty of the selection process. It took hard work to get the final list and many movies had to be seen several times”. Comparing to the VIDCF 2006’s official selection, the LVF’s President also refers that “in this second edition, both the technical and formal quality and the human interest of the treated themes are superior, proving that, although only on its second edition , LVF is successfully reaching out to the industry and its merit being recognized. As far as the selection committee is concerned, this quality is also due to the technical progress achieved meanwhile and to the métier of a group of young directors who face the D-Cinema challenges without any kind of prejudice”.
The films in competition at the VIDCF 2007 can be seen from June 19th until June 22nd, at the mythical movie theatre “Cinema S. Jorge”. On the 23rd of June, the prizes will be awarded in a closing ceremony produced and broadcasted by RTP – The National Public Television and, on the Lisbon Village Festival’s last day, the 24th of June, the awarded films are screened in a special screening.
