Udine's (Italy) Visionario is the first cinema in the world to adopt the brand-new butterfly-shaped safety device!

We've all heard people using the verb "to fly" plenty of times to make some rhetorical point, right? Okay, we might not know exactly how many times, but we do know that it's sometimes possible to speak about flying without sounding pretentious: just come into the Astra Screen of the Visionario Cinema in Udine (Italy). A quick look around you before you sit down and you'll feel like you're in business class of a Jumbo Jet ready for take off – ready to fly, in fact!

Udine's Visionario is the first cinema in the world equipped with an elegant and brand new safety device called Butterfly (see why we were using the the flight metaphor now?). Fitted between the seats and made of antibacterial eco-leather, it's the work of Fabio Sonego, one of the top experts in the sector.

The current health crisis necessitates intelligent remodelling of all shared spaces, and in response Treviso-based company Lino Sonego - a world leader in seating and Made in Italy quality par excellence – has created and patented dividers that reproduce the shape of butterfly wings, offering viewers intimacy and protection and guaranteeing perfect visibility of the screen.

“This means that the Visionario is ready to open its doors in absolute safety and with maximum comfort,” the cinema's managers state. “We are the first cinema to adopt this system, which creates small safe areas (single seat, double seat, triple seat) by adapting the space in the room: from 173 seats, the "new" Astra Screen can now accommodate 105 viewers.”

"There's a lot of talk about physical distancing,” adds Sonego, “and Butterfly is the direct expression of that: a safety device which is also a piece of furniture: functional, and at the same time protective. Spectators won't feel claustrophobic, because the minimum distance between one Butterfly and the next is at least 1.10 metres, and visibility won't be obstructed.”
