TUYA'S WEDDING Wins Berlinale Golden BearIn a surprise twist, a Chinese film has won the Berlinale Golden Bear, the Berlin Film Festival's highest honor. TUYA'S MARRIAGE by Chinese director Wang Quan'an won the Festival's top prize, which was announced with other awards at the Festival's closing ceremony Saturday evening. The film, the story of a woman living in rural northwestern Mongolia and facing pressure to abandon her life as a shepherd, did not figure on most critics' prediction lists. A gentle, atmospheric and almost non-verbal study of rural life, the film flew under the radar, especially in competition with its higher profile competitors. 18.02.2007 | Editor's blog Cat. : Alfred Bauer Ann-Kristin Reyels Ariel Rotter Ariel Rotter Bear - Best Film Music Belgium Berlin Film Festival Berlin International Film Festival BERLINER MORGENPOST Bruce McDonald Cinema of Argentina Cinema of Germany CYBORG Korean Czech Republic David Mackenzie El otro Entertainment Entertainment Film FIPRESCI French/Palestinian Gael Garcia Bernal Golden Bear Hiam Abbass Human Interest Human Interest Jiri Menzel Joseph Cedar Julio Chavez Jury Jury Grand Prix Lebanon Liraz Liberti Mario Adorf Molly Malene Stensgaard Nina Hoss Palm Park Chan-wook Park Chan-Wook Paul Schrader Robert DeNiro Sam Garbarski Sandy Mandelberger South Korea the Alfred Bauer Prize the Berlin Film Festival the Festival's top prize THE TRACEY FRAGMENTSManfred Salzberger Prize The Walker Tuya's Marriage United Kingdom Wang Quan'an Willem Dafoe YELLASilver Bear - Best |
