The Winter Film Awards Opening Night: Major Studio and Latin Film Gala in New York February 9th

 

Opening Night of the First Annual Winter Film Awards to award the very best in Major Studio productions and Latin American Film with A-list celebrities and entertainers to be performing, presenting and attending.

New York, NY, January 17, 2012 - The Winter Film Awards (WFA) Opening Night will be on par with the finest American award shows of our time. Executive Producer Johnny Falcones says "The Winter Film Awards will be another New York tradition where the Stars can shine for years to come." The star studded show will be broadcasted into 45 million homes on American Primetime Television on February 9th starting at 6p.m. The years top films, actors, producers and directors are nominated, as recognized by the WFA Board of Governors, including:

 

Best Picture- The Descendants, Tree of Life, The Artist, Hugo, War Horse

Best Director- Michael Hazanavicius-The Artist, Alexander Payne-The Descendants, Woody Allen-Midnight in Paris, Steven Spielberg-War Horse, Terrence Malick-The Tree of Life

Best Actress- Meryl Streep-The Iron Lady, Glenn Close-Albert Nobbs, Michelle Williams-My Week with Marilyn, Tilda Swinton-We Need to Talk About Kevin

Best Actor- George Clooney-The Descendants, Jean Dujardin-The Artist, Brad Pitt-Moneyball, Leonardo Dicaprio-J Edgar, Michael Fassbender-A Dangerous Method

Best Foreign Language Film- Le Havre, The Skin I Live In, Miss Bala, Poetry, Footnote

Best Documentary Feature- Project Nim, Hell and Back Again, Cave of Forgotten Dreams, Pina, George Harrison, Living in the Material World

Best Latin Picture- Artificial Paradises, Miss Bala, Violeta, The Rumble of the Stones, The Skin I Live In.

Best Director of Latin Film- Pedro Almodovar-The Skin I Live In, Gerardo Narajo-Miss Bala, Yulene Olaizola-Artificial Paradises, Andres Wood-Violeta, Mateo Gil-Blackthorn

Best Performance by a Latin Actress- Stephanie Sigman-Miss Bala, Zoe Saldana-Columbiana, Luisa Pardo-Artificial Paradises, Francisca Gavilan-Violeta, Rossana Fernandez Diaz-The Rumble of the Stones

Best Performance by a Latin Actor- Salomon Hernandez-Artificial Paradises, Daniel Antivilo-Violeta, Noe Hernandez-Miss Bala, Hector Morales-My Last Round, Antonio Banderas-The Skin I Live In

Honorary Latin Winter Film Awards- Marc Anthony

 

The awards given will have the same integrity and prestige as the worlds highest prizes in cinema. This will make the Winter Film Awards regarded as one of the most coveted and reputable honors bestowed on motion pictures.  

 

In addition to Hollywood movies the show is delighted to showcase Latin America's contribution to film in 2011 by having categories devoted to these unique films. The WFA has nominated films that are native to Mexico, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Columbia, Puerto Rico, Chile, Argentina, Brazil and Peru in hopes to present these expertly crafted films to a larger audience and help them gain public notoriety.  

 

Along with the accolades the crowd will be entertained by highly talented presenters and performers. John Leguizamo, JenCarlos Canela, Marc Anthony and Mayor Bloomberg are all expected to have memorable appearances making this inaugural Winter Film Awards Show vastly entertaining to viewers.
