The New York Television Festival announces keynotes

The New York Television Festival (NYTVF) today announced Emmy Award-winning writer and producer Ronald D. Moore as the keynote speaker for the indie TV fest's first ever Development Day, a free series of panels and discussions with industry leaders for those aiming to take their television careers to the next level, Saturday, September 26 at New World Stages (340 West 50th Street, btwn 8th and 9th Aves). In addition to the keynote address, the day will feature writers and executives from "30 Rock," Fox Television Studios, VH1, IFC, Telenext Media and The PIT.

Moore, whose television credits include Executive Producer of the Peabody award winning "Battlestar Galactica," writer and Co-Executive Producer on "Star Trek" and Executive Producer on the upcoming SyFy series "Caprica," will deliver his keynote address at 6:00 pm to close out NYTVF Development Day.

Since we started the festival in 2005, a large part of our mission has been to engage and inspire emerging writers and producers," said NYTVF founder Terence Gray. "Ron Moore's work as a writer and creator has illustrated what television can and should be for a whole generation of young artists. We are honored to have him with us at the NYTVF."

The first-ever Development Day will offer aspiring producers, writers, and directors insight on structuring their storytelling and developing new scripted or non-scripted television show ideas through a series of five panels on Saturday, September 26:


Inside the "30 Rock" Writers Room, 12:00 PM

Moderated by Dan Manu (Director, Television Without Pity)
Matt Hubbard and Kay Cannon, writer-producers for the Emmy Award winning comedy, "30 Rock" explore what makes the show work and how episodes are crafted.


Developing Scripted Television, 1:00 PM
Farahnakian (Founder, The PIT, Simple Studios), Brian Cahill (Senior Vice President and Managing Director, TeleNext Media, Inc.) and Gabriel Marano (VP of Programming, Fox Television Studios) discuss the core elements of creating scripted television.


Developing Non-scripted Television, 2:00 PM

Dave Hamilton (VP of Development and Production, VH1) will join a selection of producers, agents and executives for a discussion on the various types of non-scripted formats, and the elements involved in their successful execution. The event is sponsored by industry powerhouse NS Bienstock.


Developing for the Web, 3:00 PM
Ilsa Berg (Director of Programming, Fox television Studios) and Colin Moore (Executive Producer, IFC Digital Media) explore the core elements of a successful web series.


The Indie Artist's Guide to Producing a Pilot, 4:00 PM

NYTVF alumni Barry Gribble (President, Integral Arts--Writer/Director), Kevin Good (Principal, Integral Arts -- Writer/Cinematographer), and James Murray (Director of Development, NorthSouth Productions) discuss the process of making an independent television pilot--from conception to production to post.


Keynote Creative Address by Ronald D. Moore, 6:00 PM

Moore will share his experiences as a writer and showrunner on television hits, including "Star Trek" and "Battlestar Galactica."
