The KahBang Film Festival 2011 will debut a new and unique format, with a new focus on Comedy filmsThe KahBang Film Festival approaches on April 8th 2011, festival organizers are proud to announce a new award given on the grounds of the exemplary achievement in Cinema to a filmmaker, actor, or actress, who is connected to Kevin Norwood Bacon in 6 films or less, acknowledging the success the recipient has achieved by being so closely connected to Mr. Bacon.
Why Kevin Bacon? The legend speaks for itself. Kevin Norwood Bacon left home at age 17 to pursue an acting career in New York City. Since his debut in the 1978 film Animal House, Bacon has appeared in over 60 films including memorable roles in Tremors, JFK, Apollo 13, Wild Things and Mystic River. In 2009 Bacon received a Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award for his portrayal of Lt. Col Michael Strobl in the HBO produced film Taking Chance. His work as an actor is so diverse that Bacon is the subject of the pop-culture trivia game titled "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon", based on the idea that, due to his prolific screen career, any Hollywood actor can be linked to another in a series of steps based on their associations with Bacon.
The KahBang Film Festival 2011 will debut a new and unique format, with a new focus on Comedy films, as well as holding true to discovering and showcasing the work from Emerging Filmmakers throughout the world. Their programming continues to be unique by also showcasing the best new Music Documentaries of the year, and the latest and greatest films from the Maine Film Community.
Previous KahBang Film Festival screenings include the Sundance Film Favorites "New Low" and "One Too Many Mornings" as well as the AFI Silverdocs Grand Jury Award Winning Documentary "Wo Ai Ni Mommy". The 2010 festival also saw the birth of our "Music Docs" category, screening the popular wine documentary "Blood Into Wine" starring musician and winemaker Maynard James Keenan.
