The Iranian Film Week in Budapest line up

Ten films by nine directors, veterans and promising newcomers, most of them recent productions, give insight into contemporary Iran at this festival organized in collaboration with the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Hungarian National Film Archive. All films will be screened in the original version with English subtitles and simultaneous Hungarian translation through ear-phones.

So Close So Far
This admirable film changes your ideas about God by showing the drama of a skilled surgeon whose only son has a brain tumor.

Color of Paradise
An inmate of the Tehran institute for the blind, Mohammad, is taken home by his father for a vacation. He tries to behave as an equal but his widowed father resents him.

Behind the Curtain of Fog
A film on the relations between a deaf boy, his single mom and a stern headmaster at the boy’sboarding school. Only after much hostility does everyone learn a lesson.

Tear of the Cold
A small Iranian squadron is continually distracted by a beautiful Kurdish girl and mines are wiping them out one by one. She is ordered to liquidate the newly arrived young expert in mine detection but fate entraps them.

An Iranian cinema classic, this unusual documentary drama depicts wedding preparations that turn into mourning rituals after a fatal car accident.

Café Transit
An independent-minded young widow with two children fights tradition and instead of marrying her brother-in-law, tries to run her dead husband’s truck stop café.

Night Bus
This minimalist black-and-white war drama travels back to the Iran-Iraq conflict of the mid-1980’s, when three Iranian soldiers are forced to transport 38 Iraqi prisoners-of-war.

A mother of poor family has guests coming over, yet does not know how to get the dinner party ready with limited resources.

Marriage Iranian Style
The highly sheltered daughter of a wealthy carpet dealer of a fine Tehran family steeped in tradition takes a job at her uncle’s travel agency and falls in love with an American.

Under the Moonlight
A meditation on life and religion, the film tells the simple story of a young seminary student who, when robbed by a street boy, learns about the world of the poor.
