It has been a while since I have communicated with many of you. I was once with the Kansas City Filmmakers Jubilee and a director of the KC Film Commission. I have been away from the film scene for about three years. Now I am in production on a short documentary - KC BBQ Blues.

Over the years I have raised a lot of money for various organizations and helped on fes films; but this is my first time trying to raise a small amount for a personal project. I am not a nonprofit beyond the fact that no one is getting paid and no money is expected to be made by the film. Any support you can spare will cover the cash expenses of making this film. My goal is $1500.

I decided to make this little film as a sort of love letter to Kansas City focusing on two aspects of its culture that have meant much to me - BBQ and the Blues. It will be a short documentary with music video elements. Tom 'Trashmouth' Baker, a KC bluesman, has written an original song - Kansas City Burnin'. Primary shooting will be at BB's Lawnside BBQ that will include a live performance of the song.

Since this is really my first film where I am responsible, I have developed a team of very experienced film professionals to help me out. I am working with the KC Film Office and the finished piece will be available for use by VisitKC to help promote the city.

The other reason for making this film is that it is a form of therapy for me. I have been dealing with terminal cancer since the fall of 2009. The early prognosis was less than a year. Well, I have beaten that, but am still on chemo treatments (currently on my 6th drug). Now my effort is focusing on living, creating, being relevant and useful while dealing with the illness. This project is part of my effort to do so. KC BBQ Blues could be just the start, but I take one project at as time.
