The 23rd edition of Stockholm Internatinal Film Festival's will take place 7-18 November.
This years program includes more than 170 film premieres from more than 50 countries. We eagerly look forward to 12 days full of quality cinema!

-This year's program is perhaps our most daring to date in which the filmmakers take greater risks than ever. The Festival strives to find the best quality films from around the world. Remarkably this year is that a third of the films in our program was made by a female director, says Git Scheynius, festival director.

This year the festival opens with the talked about political thriller Call Girl by Mikael Marcimain, the centre gala piece is Robert Zemeckis Flight with Denzel Washington as a drunken airline pilot. The big buzz of the year, The Master by Paul Thomas Anderson will close the festival.

The Festival's competition is open to filmmakers who have not made more than three feature films. This year 20 films compete for the prestigious Bronze Horse, which is awarded the best film.

Spotlight: POWER

Stockholm 23 th International Film Festival will feature Spotlight:Power. With twelve films which in different ways challenge power and pose the uncomfortable questions. Telia Festival on Demand

During the festival 5 selected festival films will have their theatrical release in Swedish Telia Digital TV alongside screenings at the festival cinemas. The project "Festival on Demand" provides movie lovers across the country the opportunity to see quality films in their living room. The five selected films in the current situation without Swedish distribution are competing for the prize Telia Film Award, which is a collaboration with Telia and shall encourage the distribution of quality films in Sweden.

Stockholm International Film Festival presents this year’s finalists for 1 km film

10 contributions from 13 filmmakers are competing for the scholarship 1 km film. The scholarship that gives young filmmakers the chance to develop their film dreams.

The 1 km film scholarship is awarded annually to young unestablished filmmakers from across the country, with the aim to help them take the next step in their career. The prize consists of 11000 Euros from SFI, and production help from Cinepost and Dagsljus - all at a value of at least 55 000 Euros. 1 km film was created by the Stockholm International Film Festival in 1990 and has since proven to be a good indicator of new talents in Swedish film.

The films will be shown on November 15th starting at 19:30 on Mauritz Filmhuset.

This years finalists

Afro by Ninja Thyberg

Ninja Thybergs (b. 1984) filmmaking is focused on power relations. Her films are centered around sensitive and taboo topics, investigating how stereotypes and hierarchy are reproduced through moving pictures.

Annalyn by Maria Eriksson

Maria Eriksson (b. 1986) studied documentary film at Folkhögskolan in Angered, followed by television directing and production at IHTV. She graduated from Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts in 2012. This is her graduation film.

Baggy by Anders Hazelius

Anders Hazelius (b.1984) was raised in Sigtuna. He graduated from Gothenburg film school with a degree in directing in 2010. In his films, man is always in the center, and sexuality is a recurring theme.

Beyond That Wasteland by Jenny Wilson and Daniel Wirtberg

Jenny Wilson (b. 1975) studied at Konstfack and has made several solo records.

Daniel Wirtberg (b. 1983) studied at the Czech film school FAMu, is a producer and a grammy nominated music video director.

Fransk Pojkvän by Charlotte Wandt

Charlotte Wandt (b. 1981) studied free art at Amsterdam Art Academy and School of Visual Art in New York. She has previously been featuered among other places in exhibitions at Bonnier Konsthall. This is her directorial debut.

Indrivaren by Michael Rendell

Michael Rendell (b. 1987) is born in Malmö. At the age of 13 he made his first short film ”The Schmuk” – a parody of ”The Rock”. He has a production company, Meshugene Brothers, together with the film's photographer.

Player by Olof Leth

Olof Leth (born. 1985) is a filmmaker living in Stockholm. He has studied psychology and

Literature with a focus on gender. "Player" is his graduation film from Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts.

Nörden & kärleken by Max Tellvig and Marcus Ljunggren

This is the third time that this duo is nominated for 1 km film scholarship. Previously for the films ”Drakar & Bacardi" and "Yogurt". Today they run the production company FEEDBACK together with Carl Moberg.

Snälla ljug by Rushema Vinberg and Helen Adler

Rushema Vinberg and Helene Adler has collaborated in around 20 projects in Australia and Sweden since 2004. In 2011 they founded the company Gaea Production together, and are now working on a feature film project.

Århundradets brott by Johanna Paulsdotter

Johanna Paulsdotter (born 1985) is one fifth of the movie collective Tjockishjärta Film.

When she is not producing her own movies, she is working with theater and freelance casting and extra supervisor.
