punk-rock icon Iggy Pop joins cast of Blue Iguana directed by Jeremy LaLonde

Producers William G. Santor, CEO of Productivity Media, and Nicholas Tabarrok, President of Darius Films, announced today that punk-rock icon Iggy Pop (Coffee and Cigarettes, Universal Pictures Cry-Baby) has joined the cast of the dark comedy Blue Iguana, currently filming in the Cayman Islands under the newly announced three-picture production deal between Productivity Media and Darius Films. Blue Iguana is directed by Canadian filmmaker and festival favorite Jeremy LaLonde (James vs. His Future Self, Sex After Kids), from a script by Matthew Dressel (You Tube comedy series “The Pilot is Dead”) and stars Joel David Moore (James Cameron’s Avatar), Bob Saget (“Full House,” “Fuller House”), Jason Jones (TBS comedy series “The Detour,” HBO Max’s “The Flight Attendant”), Carly Chaikin (“Mr. Robot”), and Mary Lynn Rajskub (Paul Thomas Anderson’s Punch-Drunk Love, Fox Searchlight Pictures’ Little Miss Sunshine, and TV’s “24”).

In this biting comedy, Iggy Pop plays the role of EDWARD, the wealthy patriarch whose death kicks off a chain of unfortunate events after Daniel Powell’s plan to reconnect with his siblings hits a snag when he discovers they all want to kill him for his inheritance. As the brothers and sisters are forced to spend the weekend together at the family beach house on the Cayman Islands, one thing becomes painfully clear: Daniel’s going to find out what family means, even if it kills him.

Blue Iguana is currently shooting in the Cayman Islands under a sweeping four picture production agreement with the Cayman Islands Film Commission, the Cayman’s Ministry of International Trade, Investment, Aviation and Maritime Affairs and Dart Enterprises championed by Eric Bush, Chief Officer of the Ministry of International Trade, Investment, Aviation and Maritime Affairs and Jackie Doak, President of Business Development at Dart Enterprises. This is the first time the Cayman Islands has entered into a multi-production deal and marks a major turning point in the territory’s emerging film industry.  Stringent COVID-19 guidelines have helped the Cayman Islands become a COVID safe zone.

Under the comprehensive production deal, the Cayman Islands Government has facilitated access to multiple locations across the islands, hotel support for visiting cast and crew, as well as expedited work permits and essential administration that allowed production to start on time.  Strategic partner Dart Enterprises is also providing vital hospitality and logistical support.

Producers Santor and Tabarrok said, “We are beyond ecstatic to have the legendary Iggy Pop join the cast of Blue Iguana. While purely coincidental to his casting, his name is derived from the word iguana so it couldn’t be more fitting that Iggy joins our already stellar cast. We can’t wait to work with him in the beautiful Cayman Islands.”

Known as the “Father of Punk Rock,” Iggy Pop was the vocalist and lyricist of the influential punk band “The Stooges,” before he later branched out and enjoyed a solo career. Deriving his name Iggy from a high school band “The Iguanas,” Iggy Pop is infamous for his performances and stage dives. As a man with a passion for the arts, Iggy Pop has collaborated with Jim Jarmusch on several projects including the cult hit Coffee and Cigarettes, Dead Man also starring Johnny Depp, Jared Harris, Crispen Glover, Billy Bob Thornton, and Steve Buscemi, the 2019 film The Dead Don't Die as well as Gimme Danger, a documentary feature film about The Stooges that premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.  Other film and TV appearances include Universal Pictures’ Cry-Baby also starring Johnny Depp, William Dafoe, and Traci Lords, a starring role in Toby Tobias’ Blood Orange, Song to Song directed by Terrence Malick, opposite Michael Fassbender, and starred in the short film The Dawn directed by N.P.Novack for which he won the best actor award at the Indie Shorts Awards New York 2021.

For television, he leant his voice as “The Caterpillar” in ABC’s “Once Upon A Time In Wonderland” and 20th Century Fox’s “American Dad!”

A legend in the music world, Iggy Pop was nominated for a Golden Globe in 2017 for Best Original Song in Gold starring Matthew McConaughey, an MTV Video Music Award for Best Video from a Film for Trainspotting, a Grammy Nomination in 2017 for Best Alternative Music Album and in 2020, was awarded a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

Alongside Tabarrok and Santor, Blue Iguana is produced by Leah Jaunzems and Jason Jallet. John Hills (Momentum Pictures’ Black Bear, Vertical Entertainment’s Four Good Days, Darius Films’ Stockholm) and Andrew Chang-Sang (Momentum Pictures’ Black Bear, Vertical Entertainment’s Four Good Days, Darius Films’ Stockholm) serve as Executive Producers.

Mimi Steinbauer’s Radiant Films International is handling worldwide distribution rights for Blue Iguana.

Iggy Pop is repped by Henry McGroggan @ Central European Organisation
