PLUS CAMERIMAGE unveils robust list of honorees
The International Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography PLUS CAMERIMAGE will recognize an esteemed group of cinematographers, directors and actors at this year's festival which takes place November 26th - December 3rd at its new home in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
With yet another robust list of honorees, PLUS CAMERIMAGE upholds its proud and unique position as the most recognized festival dedicated to the art of cinematography, and in recent years, expanded its breadth of honors to include eminent filmmakers and actors. The Festival contributes to the growth of cinematographers' prestige and maintains an unconventional format that awards films based on their visual, aesthetic and technical values.
Among the notable talent being recognized at the 19th edition of PLUS CAMERIMAGE are:
Lifetime Achievement Award John Seale - Academy Award® winning cinematographer whose credits include Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Rain Man, The Tourist, and The Perfect Storm among many others. He is recognized throughout the industry as one of the world's greatest directors of photography. His style is distinguished by his striking feel for textures and colors of nature, demonstrated in abundance in The English Patient, which earned him an Oscar®.
Lifetime Achievement Award to a Polish Director with Unique Visual Sensitivity Andrzej Wajda - a prominent Polish film and theatre director, Wajda is an Academy Honorary Award recipient (2000). His movies The Promised Land, The Maids of Wilko, Man of Iron, and Katyń, were each nominated for an Oscar® in the "Best Foreign Language Film" category. His other accolades include: a Golden Palm for Man of Iron at the Cannes Film Festival, a César Award for Best Director for Danton, a Golden Frog for best director-cinematographer duo (with Witold Sobociński) at the 8th Camerimage Festival, as well as a European Film Award, a Golden Lion at The Venice Film Festival, a Golden Bear at The Berlin International Film Festival and a Polish Film Award Eagle for Lifetime Achievement.
Award to an Actor with Unique Visual Sensitivity Klaus Maria Brandauer - Received a Golden Globe and Oscar® nomination for his role as Bror Blixen in Sydney Pollack's Out of Africa. Other memorable roles of Brandauer have included Never Say Never Again, Mephisto and Rembrandt.
Award for Outstanding Achievement in Documentary Film Albert Maysles - Maysles, whom Jean-Luc Godard called "the best American cameraman" and The New York Times entitled the "Dean of documentary filmmakers" is an Oscar® nominated filmmaker and cinematographer recognized as a pioneer of Direct Cinema. Along with his brother David, Maysles was one of the very first to make documentary films where the drama of life unfolds as it is, without scripts, sets, interviews or narration. The Maysles brothers' best-known movies are Salesman, Gimme Shelter, the dazzling portrait of Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones, and Grey Gardens.
Special Award for a Production Designer with Unique Visual Sensitivity Jack Fisk - Academy Award® nominated production designer with more than 40 years of experience in the film industry and film credits including There Will Be Blood, Mulholland Dr. and The Thin Red Line. Fisk was the production designer of all five films directed by Terrence Malick (their sixth is under way).
Cinematographer - Director - Duo Award Ed Lachman and Todd Haynes - Lachman and Haynes have worked together for a decade and have made three joint projects together - Far From Heaven, I'm Not There and Mildred Pierce.
Outstanding Achievements In The Field Of Music Videos Award Andy Morahan - Legendary music video director who's worked with some of the biggest names in music including Elton John, Billy Joel, George Michael, Guns & Roses and Michael Jackson. Credits include "Highlander: The Final Dimension" "Goal! III" and "Michael Jackson Live in Bucharest: The Dangerous Tour."
PLUS CAMERIMAGE will also host special retrospectives for directors Hal Hartley (Trust, Amateur, Simple Men) and Jay Rosenblatt (Human Remains, King of the Jews, The Smell of Burning Ants).
