Perth announces the final selection of In Retrospect: 60 Years of Festival Films

5 – 11 MARCH
Perth Festival is delighted to announce the final selection of In Retrospect: 60 Years of Festival Films.
In celebration of our 60th Festival we have selected seven films from those which have screened at the Festival since its beginning in 1953. One film from each decade was selected to screen for one night only from Monday, 5 March and one Australasian film will screen on Sunday, 11 March.
Perth Festival Artistic Director Jonathan Holloway said: “Perth Festival has a team of dedicated and focussed programmers, each with vision, knowledge and skill. However, once every 60 years, it’s great to do something that’s curated by committee, including great feedback from the public via social media, email and conversations.”
“A group of us, led by film program manager Madeline Bates and inspired by the responses from the audience sat down and argued over the hundreds of extraordinary films that have been shown as part of the Festival Films.
“The list reflects a wide spectrum of cinematic experiences with masterpieces, audience favourites and ground-breaking films that all have their place in cinema history.”
And the winners are:
Tokyo Story (Dir: Yasujirô Ozu, 1953). Year of original Festival screening: 1965
Red Desert (Dir: Michelangelo Antonioni, 1964). Year of original Festival screening: 1968

We are delighted to be hosting the WA premiere of This is Not a Film to honour one of Iran’s most dynamic and important Directors.
As it is in Heaven (Dir: Kay Pollack, 2004) Year of original Festival screening: 2007
