Paul Haggis host of honor for the Ischia Global Film & Music Fest

The new king of the International cinema, Canadian writer-director-producer Paul Haggis will join the hosts of honor for the 4th Ischia Global Film & Music Fest to be held July 11-16, 2006, at the Regina Isabella Resort & Spa in Lacco Ameno on the island of Ischia, Italy.
The extraordinary double 2006 Academy Award® winner for the movie “Crash” and previous Oscar® nominee for the screenplay of the movie "Million Dollar Baby” by Clint Eastwood, as well as the next announced blockbuster "Flags of our Fathers", and "007 - Casino Royale" will receive the Ischia Special Global Award named in honor of the legendary director Luchino Visconti during the announced ceremony of July 12th in the garden of the Colombaia, the last residence of Visconti, the grand master of the Italian cinema. The following day Paul Haggis will preside over the 1st International Symposium on Screenplay in the Cinema.
"This year the slogan of Ischia Global is ‘The German Cinema Lives,’ demonstrating that all good cinema does not come just from Hollywood. In Europe we are plenty of great young and talented authors" said Pascal Vicedomini, founder and producer of the event.
After dedicating last year's third edition (co-produced with the Luce Institute) to the Russian cinema, the Ischia Global Fest 2006 aims its spotlight at the German cinematographic industry with a review of both new and old works of directors known internationally. This portion of the festival is being developed in collaboration with the management of the German Film institution in Italy.
The final program of the festival will be announced July 3rd in Rome at the Foreign Media Center - on via dell'Umiltà. It comprises, at the moment, of film previews distributed from Fox, Buena Vista, Sony Pictures, 01 Distribution, IIF, Lucky Red, Sharada, Luce Institute, Moviemax and Minerva. Other additions will be announced later.
The festival also will review the best Italian films of the first half of 2006; hold galas for the presentation of Ischia Awards and the Premio Isabella Rizzoli, an honor initiated by film producer Marina Cicogna.
Among prizes to be presented at Ischia will be honors to the 2006 Oscar® winner Coleen Atwood (best costumes for “Geisha” and to the 2006 Oscar® nominee Dario Marianelli (music score of “Pride & Prejudice”)
"With its original formula for focusing on new markets and total creativity, and thanks to the unparalleled natural location on the Green Island, the Ischia Global Fest already is among the international film and music events of great interest and world-wide prestige," said Pascal Vicedomini. "This established event of the Italian cinema from its first 3 editions has welcomed world-wide participation of industry stars like Francis Ford Coppola, Alan Parker, Neil Jordan, Val Kilmer, Dennis Hopper, Norman Jewison, Taylor Hackford, Joseph Fiennes, F. Murray Abraham, Brenda Blethyn, Gerard Butler Jean-Claude Van Damme, Shekhar Kapur, Peter Greenaway, Anita Ekberg, Stefania Sandrelli and opera singer Andrea Bocelli "
