Ms. Lauryn Hill Announced as Opening Night Performer at 2018 Greenwich International Film Festival

Greenwich International Film Festival announces Ms. Lauryn Hill as the performer for its 2018 Opening Night Party, taking place June 1, 2018 at the Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich. The party will follow the Festival’s Opening Night Film Premiere.

With a focus this year on female filmmakers and empowerment within the industry, Ms. Lauryn Hill is an exciting and timely choice of performer for the Festival.  Ms. Hill sang and deeply appreciated music at a young age, known for being very animated, she also acted, danced and enjoyed performance art of various kinds. After graduating high school, she attended Columbia University in New York while a member of the then up and coming musical group The Fugees. She often envisioned herself as able to very naturally make the kind of great contributions that often come from people with great minds and the passion and discipline required in order to bring great things into fruition. She would establish a reputation in the music world as the lone female member of The Fugees, whose record sales would make them the second biggest selling R&B act worldwide since Michael Jackson. Best known for her critically acclaimed solo album “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill”, which earned a record-breaking five Grammy Awards, Ms. Hill is an embodiment of female strength and recognition within the music industry.

Proceeds from the festival will benefit Ms Hill’s charity fund, which supports education, health, agriculture, technology, and community-based businesses throughout the Diaspora.

Tickets for the Opening Night Party are on sale today, April 2, 2018 at www.greenwichfilm.org.

Greenwich International Film Festival is set to run May 31-June 3, 2018. Film tickets go on sale May 2, 2018 and will be available for purchase at greenwichfilm.org. The Festival’s full film slate will be announced in early May.
