The market was originally launched as Mercado del Cine Francés for French films in 2016 by Unifrance in partnership with the Miami Film Festival. In 2020, EFP joined the partnership, opening up the Mercado to films from the whole of Europe to facilitate sales to Latin America, a continent with a huge audience potential.
