Meetings on the Bridge at 35th Istanbul Film Festival will take place on 8-14 April 20162016 MEETINGS ON THE BRIDGE
Meetings on the Bridge, organised in the scope of 35th Istanbul Film Festival on 8-14 April 2016 with the support of Anadolu Efes, brings filmmakers from Turkey and the Neighbours together with the international industry.
While providing an opportunity for filmmakers to hold the first international presentations for their new film projects at Film Development Workshop and films in post-production at Work in Progress, it also aims to pave the way for co-productions. Since 2008, 36 Meetings on the Bridge films are completed and make their premieres at national and international film festivals and 42 films and projects are awarded and funded with 588.614 Euros.
Film Development Workshop:
This year, the writers, directors and producers of the Film Development Workshop selected projects had prep days with experts on script, production, pitching, marketing, social media and crowdfunding.
Following the prep days held in March, the teams of the projects will be holding one to one meetings with international producers, funds, festivals, broadcasters and buyers. At the end of the workshop the international jury will determine the projects that will receive the following development awards:
• The Republic of Turkey Ministry of Culture and Tourism Support Award of USD 10,000 • Melodika Sound Post-Production Award: Covers the expenses of sound post-production of the film • Mediterranean Film Institute (MFI) Script Workshop Award: Includes the scriptwriting workshops, organised twice in Greek islands, followed by two online sessions.

Work in Progress
Aiming to offer a gap financing support for films from Turkey, Work in Progress in its fifth year, will be presenting a selection of films in post-production on April 12 and 13 to international distributors, festival and fund directors, broadcasters. The international jury will decide on the film or films to receive the following awards after watching the offline edit of the selected films:

Neighbours
Meetings on the Bridge has launched NEIGHBOURS platform last year in order to initiate new international collaborations and enhance communication between filmmakers from Turkey and the neighbouring countries. With the aim of building a ground for institutions and individuals to cooperate while developing common stories, the platform, organised within Film Development Workshop, invites film professionals and filmmakers from neighbouring countries through methods of scouting and interviewing.

Panels and Master Classes:
Meetings on the Bridge master classes and panels will be held on April 8-12 at Aynalı Geçit. The fundamental questions of production and alternative methods in financing, distribution and new media trends will be discussed in a series of plenary sessions with international and local experts In the Meet and Greet sessions ‘Meet the Funds and Markets’ and ‘Meet the Festivals the representatives of international funds, markets and festivals will be shortly introduced and information on conditions for application and regulations will be shared. Carlos Hagerman, whose documentary "No Place Like Home" will be screened at the festival, will be discussing about "Esthetic and Narrative Tools in Documentary Filmmaking".
Virtual reality and 360° filmmaking, will be the subject of a one-day master class and workshop. The introduction of virtual reality into mainstream media and its future effects on the perception of cinema will be discussed with by Arne Ludwig from Eitelsonnenschein Film Production, creator of Headtrip and Turhan Yiğitbaşı from Gamester the producer of 360° game and content, Alper Özyurtlu, the founder and content provider of Timelooper application on 360° gaming experience, and Müge Özen (AC Film), the producer of these contents.
The Project Coordinator of Fongogo Seda Kürkçüoğlu, Paz Ajans founder İmre Tezel and social media expert Nihan Katipoğlu( Medyagaga) will discuss the essence of marketing techniques, crowd funding,and social media strategies beginning at the early stages of filmmaking. The head of Israel Film Fund and one of the Meetings on the Bridge experts Katriel Schory, will hold a master class on Super Low Budget Guerilla Filmmaking.
Horror film producer Jan Doense and Frontières’ Co-Production Market Director Lindsay Peters will talk about the concept of genre film and genre film’s place in the film industry, and there will also be a case study focused on the production and distribution processes of Can Evrenol’s first feature film Baskin. In the midst of gender equality and the place of women in the film industry, current situation in Europe and the US will be discussed in terms of the strategies of institutions’s such as Swedish Film Institute, Eurimages and Gamechanger Films to point out the factors, schemes and project that shape the woman’s ‘’way’’.
