Madrid will host an international film festival: The name is Filmadrid...

LOGO-FILMADRID-Peque%C3%B1o1.png

FILMADRID International Film Festival was born with the determination to discover new paths in the landscape of contemporary cinematography, with a focus in the promotion and exhibition of author cinema. We accept films from all over the world. The call is open to fiction and non fiction films, with special interest in works that innovate in their narrative and formal approaches, regardless of production formats. FILMADRID is created by Pasajes de Cine, a cultural association based in Madrid.

The new festival, which will be held in Madrid in June 2015, will have different sections open to competition, a variety of activities mixing films and performing arts, a gathering space for shortfilms and will provide a platform to successful filmmakers in order to make us comprehend the audiovisual landscape of nowadays.

The 1st edition of the Madrilenian festival is born as a space to discover, discuss, and enjoy the contemporary filmmaking landscape, from an artistic, cultural and educational point of view, seeking to place Madrid as a reference point    of the contemporary film industry.

Pasajes de Cine, which has been promoting independent films for the last two years, is the festival organising entity. Led by Nuria Cubas, Fernando Vílchez and Javier H. Estrada, who are all critics and cinema programmers at an international level.

Madrid adds a new event to its cultural calendar: FILMADRID is born. A new festival aiming to place Madrid as a contemporary filmmaking showcase. FILMADRID International Film Festival, will take place at the beginning of June and it will be a new gathering space to discover and enjoy the contemporary filmmaking landscape. Films from all over the world, made by both world renowned and first time filmmakers, will come to Madrid in order to compete in the first edition of the festival.

The festival is promoted by Pasajes de Cine, a cultural entity which has been promoting films in Madrid for the last two years and it is led by Nuria Cubas, Fernando Vílchez and Javier H. Estrada, all critics and cinema programmers at an international level.

Sections open to competition and films that will flood the city

FILMADRID is composed of two different sections open to competition: An International Competition made up of ten full-length films coming from all over the world, and a Cutting-Edge Competition focused on the best experimental films. The call is open to works of all kinds and lengths. The deadline for submitting films is the 10th of April.

The programme is completed by the section FOCOS. This section comes up with the idea to take notice of two internationally acclaimed filmmakers which life's work is practically unknown in Madrid.

In addition, FILMADRID will offer the section Vanguardias Life, where different filmmakers will mix films and performances along the streets of Madrid.

FILMADRID, the festival that will sustain and spread cinephilia in Madrid.

Nuria Cubas and Fernando Vilchez, the festival directors, announce that “FILMADRID will offer not only surprising, fresh and high quality films: our intentions are to involve the citizens beyond the cinemas”. Adding: “We want Madrid to become a reference of the contemporary film industry. Many films are released in international film festivals but we never get to see them in Madrid cinemas, we believe that this city deserves to be able to watch them in an enabling enviroment”.
