launch of a new community blog : YearoftheGay.com,

TLAgay.com (www.tlagay.com), one of the largest online and direct mail DVD and VOD entertainment retailers in the country, is starting off 2011 with something special. Today, the company announced the launch of YearoftheGay.com, a blog designed to celebrate some of the best films of the gay-themed canon.

With each new month, TLA and YearoftheGay.com will be selecting a new theme and highlighting some of the most revered gay movies from within each specific category – including Gay Cinema of the 1970s, Queer Comedy, Pride Stories, Sizzling Sexuality, International Essentials, and many more. On top of that, users will have the option to purchase each month’s selected films from TLAgay.com at a 20% discount.

“We come across so many wonderfully original gay movies and, as time passes, many great works are forgotten. This is a fun way of highlighting our favorites from throughout the years that audiences may have let slip through the cracks,” remarked Robert O’Neill, YearoftheGay.com editor.

The Year of the Gay begins in January with Favorite Gay Romances. Films highlighted include gay cinema landmarks (Merchant/Ivory’s Maurice, Brokeback Mountain, the beloved 2003 independent hit Latter Days), more current favorites from the film festival circuit (Eyes Wide Open, Is it Just Me?, BearCity), and a few amusingly unusual additions (Sidney Lumet’s 1974 true-crime classic Dog Day Afternoon).

“People may think it’s strange to include a film like Dog Day Afternoon, in a ‘romance’ line-up, but I think we make a strong case for it,” said O’Neill. “The film may concern a gritty bank robbery, but that robbery is actually driven by one man’s love for another. And, many people forget that the film features any LGBT content in the first place.”

While browsing YearoftheGay.com, users are invited to read reviews, view photos and watch original trailers and various clips from each selected film in addition to leaving comments. Next month’s installment, highlighting the best gay films of the 1970s, will appear on February 1st.

TLA Entertainment offers the very best in home entertainment offering a vast catalog of movies for every type of consumer, from Hollywood hits to quirky Independent cinema to Gay & Lesbian films and the hottest in both Straight and Gay adult entertainment.
