La Résidence de la Cinéfondation holds its 18th session.

La Résidence de la Cinéfondation will host, from March 1st 2009 to July 15th 2009, 6 new successful candidates on their programme which helps young filmmakers write the screenplay and prepare for the production of their first or second feature film.
Gilles Jacob and jury chose, from over 160 applicants, one female and five male directors.

- Yaël Gidron (Israeli, 27) with Nature Film (1st feature), follows the return of Daphna to the army base she fled from after spending a few days in a nature reserve.

- Rafael Kapelinski (Polish, 38) with Up on The Roof (1st feature), describes the efforts over a 3-day period of Marek Makowski (40), in exile in Dublin and making do as best he can, to prove to his wife who has arrived unexpectedly that he has a flat, a boss, an office and a secretary.

- Martin Turk (Slovenian, 30) tells through 3 stories, with Feed Me With your Words (1st feature), the tale of a family affected by mental illness.

- Andreas Bolm (German, 37) with The Revenant (1st feature), observes how 19 year old Fabian, after having abandoned his girlfriend and child on the spur of the moment, allows himself to be mistaken for Thomas, the son of Ada and Volker, who has long since disappeared without a trace.

- Julio Hernández-Cordón (Guatemalan, 33) with Dust (2nd feature), looks at the paths of two young men, Ignacio (mixed race) and Juan (Indian), who can no longer put up with their mothers or their misfortune.

- Esteban Larrain (Chilian, 35) with La Vierge de Peñablanca (2nd feature), makes a study of manipulation through the story of a 13 year old child in Pinochet’s Chile, who talks of the Virgin Mary and who, in just a few weeks, attracts more than 100,000 people to come see the apparition.

La Résidence de la Cinéfondation enjoys very encouraging results: 65% of the projects it has supported since its foundation in 2000 have been made and, for the most part, distributed. This figure can be raised to 89% if the 22 films currently in pre-production are taken into account.
On theatre release right now are Pièces Détachées by Aaron Fernandez, Los Bastardos by Amat Escalante, Adrian Sitaru’s Pic-Nic and, coming soon, Delta by Kornel Mundrunczo.
