The Eighth edition of the LOS ANGELES LATINO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (LALIFF) will take place July 16th to the 25th at the EGYPTIAN THEATRE in Los Angeles and will showcase over 100 films, 4 of them world premieres and 11 of them US premieres, from various countries as diverse as Portugal, Uruguay, Spain, Mexico, Cuba, Peru, Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, USA, Chile, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Canada and Venezuela.

Within the Official Section, in the Feature Competition we will find titles such as Punto y raya (Venezuela) by Elia Schneider, Tuna and chocolate (Spain) by Pablo Carbonell, O Fascinio (Portugal) by Jose Fonseca e Costa, Dirt (USA) by Nancy Savoca, and Bar el Chino (Argentina) by Daniel Burak, among others.

Also in the Official Section, but this time in the Documentary Competition, it will be possible to see movies such as Digna, worthy to the last breath (Mexico) by Felipe Cazals, Memory of the Loitering (Argentina) by Fernando Solanas, Baghdad Rap (Spain) by Arturo Cisneros and Extranjeras (Spain) by Helena Taberna, among others.

Among the films in competition, in the Shorts section, 35 films will vie for the Best Short Film Award. The winning film will be automatically entered to compete in the Short Film category in the next Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Science Awards.

The Panorama section will bring us closer to a wide selection of Iberoamerican titles: B-Happy (Chile) by Gonzalo Justiniano, Aunque estés lejos (Cuba) by Juan Carlos Tabío, The Storytellers (Brazil) by Eliane Caffé, Ojos que no ven (Peru) by Francisco Lombardi, … En fin, el mar (Argentina/Cuba) by Jorge Dyszel, are just a sample of what the festival has in store.

In the Official Section, out of competition, we will have the participation of films such as Suite Havana (Cuba) by Fernando Pérez, Take My Eyes (Spain) by Icíar Bollain, The Man Who Copied (Brazil) by Jorge Furtado and Ladies’ night (Mexico) by Gabriela Tagliavini.

In addition to these sections, LALIFF will present others, such as: IBERMEDIA RETROSPECTIVE, where we will feature 14 titles produced with this Program’s support. 13 Iberoamerican countries participate in the the Ibermedia, a 4 million dollar budget program that supports Production, Project Development, Distribution and Professional Development in its participating countries. Another section is MUSIC AND CINEMA, featuring a variety of rhythms in films such as Jazz de Cuba (Cuba) by Rolando Almirante Castillo, Cómo se forma una rumba (Spain) by Iván A. Costa, Nélson Freire (Brazil) by Joao Moreira Salles, Chalino Sánchez: una vida de peligros… (USA) by Henry Zakka, and Verónica Villarroel: the accidental Diva (Chile/USA) by Lydia Berndersky.
