John Zois has joined prolific independent entertainment studio IM Global as the Senior Vice President, Acquisitions

John Zois has joined prolific independent entertainment studio IM Global as the Senior Vice President, Acquisitions, it was announced today by company founder and CEO Stuart Ford.  Zois will report to Ford, and work alongside JR Smith, the company’s Director of Acquisitions.

Zois was most recently the Director of Worldwide Acquisitions for EuropaCorp, where he worked on acquiring films for distribution in the U.S. as well as for France and around the world.  While there Zois acquired James Ponsoldt’s THE CIRCLE, starring Tom Hanks, Emma Watson and John Boyega, for which IM Global subsequently acquired the international rights.  Other films he worked on while at EuropaCorp include The Nice Guys (for French distribution) and John Madden’s Miss Sloane, with Jessica Chastain and Mark Strong.

Prior to joining EuropaCorp, Zois worked in both acquisitions and sales at FilmNation Entertainment.  Some of the projects he worked on there include Room, A Most Violent Year, Looper, Side Effects, and Lawless.  Zois, who was a student in Cinema Studies at NYU’s Tisch School, began his career at AMC Theatres and then the Gersh Agency before going into acquisitions.

Said Zois, “I am thrilled to join Stuart and the great team at IM Global, which has been a leader in its field since its inception almost a decade ago. This new era is an extremely exciting time for the company and I am looking forward to bringing in new and interesting projects as we continue to grow.”

Said Ford, “John is a savvy, well respected figure on the acquisitions circuit and going forward I’m sure he will play a significant role in helping us board the strongest independent projects from around the globe as either a financier, distributor or sales agent”.

IM Global is currently a principal financier or co-financier of a star-studded slate of 2016 releases, including Gary Ross’s Free State Of Jones starring Matthew McConaughey, Mel Gibson’s Hacksaw Ridge starring Andrew Garfield, Martin Scorsese’s Silence, starring Andrew Garfield and Liam Neeson,  Eran Creevy’s Collide starring Nicholas Hoult, Felicity Jones, Sir Anthony Hopkins and Sir Ben Kingsley, Brad Peyton’s Incarnate starring Aaron Eckhart, and Barack and Michelle Obama’s first date romantic dramedy Southside With You.  IM Global also recently handled the international sales on the highest grossing Chinese film ever, The Mermaid, from Stephen Chow, which has grossed over $545 million worldwide to date.

Last month, Los Angeles and Shanghai based investment fund TMP announced a significant investment in IM Global as well as the merging of IM Global Television into a new production joint venture with Chinese internet giant Tencent.  Existing IM Global shareholder Reliance Entertainment also reinvested in the thriving independent studio as part of the transaction.
