Ivan Corbisier joins as new director of the Brussels Film Festival

This year the BRUSSELS FILM FESTIVAL will take place from the 23th until the 30th of June 2010 at Flagey (Brussels, Belgium).

This new edition will be marked by the arrival of Ivan Corbisier, the new director of the eventn combining a talent for event organization and a passion for cinema!

Ivan Corbisier began his career as an organizer of events in France and as a journalist in Belgium. Then he became director of a cultural center and the delegated manager of the cinema Forum in Namur. He was very implicated in the Belgian film scene and collaborated on festivals in Brussels and Namur. He also was a member of the Commission de Sélection du Film for the Belgian French Community. In 2005 and 2006 he was the coordinator of the Brussels Film Festival. In 2007 he started a summer tour of open air screenings (Une toile sous les étoiles), which is now organized every year. Since 2007 he also organizes the Brussels Movie Days that encounters a successful edition every year in September. Ivan Corbisier is also in charge of the film programming at Wolubilis. It is with a profound know-how and a real dynamism that he takes over the direction of the Brussels Film Festival from producer Dominique Janne.

Brussels will become the meeting point of young film talent and renowned filmmakers!

As the fresh director of the BRUSSELS FILM FESTIVAL, Ivan Corbisier already establishes some important changes to give the festival a new dynamic. By breaking through the narrow constraints of a programmation that only selected from first and second feature films, the festival will from now on select from the entire European film production. While, at the same time wanting to stay the discoveror of new young talent, the Brussels Film Festival can now keep following the career of young, already discovered filmmakers and welcome prestigious guests. This change will help the Film Festival to gain an important place within the mediatic scene. Young talented filmmakers therefore are still put into the spotlights, but now they will share the red carpet with famous filmmakers and stars of the 7th art!

Extensive but careful programming

The programming of the BRUSSELS FILM FESTIVAL will be organized around five pillars.

The Official Competition will present feature films in national premiere from the four corners of Europe, all genres confounded. The section Avant-Premières gives the audience the opportunity to already discover the most awaited films of the Summer and Autumn. Unreleased European Films wants to offer an inside view of the European film productions that are not released in Belgium. The Open Air Screenings (free entrance) that attract at least thousand spectators every night at the Place Ste Croix. And last but not least, the Belgian Talents section offers a selection of Belgian films (shorts and long features) in avant-première or films released in the previous months, but deserving a second time under the spotlights.

Brussels, European capital of cinema

With 50 avant-premières in 8 days, animation, exhibitions, public and professional meetings, an international jury and 45.000 € worth of prizes, the BRUSSELS FILM FESTIVAL wants to become a European reference among film festivals. Situated at the heart of the Capital of Europe, this event gets its full effect at a time when the former Belgian Prime Minister Herman Van Rompuy becomes President of Europe and at the specific time when Belgium takes over the Presidency of Europe.
