JURY PRESIDENT DERVIS ZAIM While pre-selection committee are reviewing the submitted films, the president of the jury also has been announced. Dervis Zaim, the award-winning director of unforgettable films such as Shadow and Faces (2010), Cycle (2013), Fish (2014) will be leading the jury. Films to compete for the Golden Cat Awards will be announced later in the month.
International Izmir Short Film Festival; one of the most prestigious art events of Izmir, Turkey, has received an immense response to its call for submissions with a very interesting and diverse mix of films from all over the world. A total of over 1500 films from 72 different countries were submitted for the Golden Cat Awards. Kindly supported by the Turkey Ministry of Culture and Tourism, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, Izmir General Directorate of Cinema, Buca, Konak, Bornova and Karşıyaka Municipalities and French Cultural Center, main screening venues for the festival are going to be; Institut Français and Izmir Art in Culture Park.
Last year’s festival transformed the city into an art feast and it has become a source of pride for the city. For the 18th edition, preparations are in full. Incredible number of films were submitted to compete in the categories of animation, documentary, experimental and fiction, both nationally and internationally. Organized by Kare Film, a colourful program will be presented at the festival between 7th and 12th of November 2017 with film screenings as well as interviews and workshops. Over 400 films are expected to be featured at the festival, which is spread over the whole city with the support of local governments and universities.
