Prominent guests at this year’s interforum in masterclasses, workshops and Script Pitch

Of the 700 accreditated guests anticipated at interfilm, 300 are international. A star-studded cast will also be present at interforum, our industry platform for the exchange between international festival guests, Berlin filmmakers and the audience: We’re thrilled to welcome notable personalities from the film world to lead the diverse range of masterclasses, film talks and workshops!

Obama’s Principal Videographer Hope Hall gives a masterclass and workshop

Hope Hall accompanied Barack Obama as Principal Presidential Videographer for 6 of his 8 years in office. Already known for her documentary film work, Barack Obama hired Hall to work on his campaign for more tolerance and inclusion and she released weekly videos from both the centre of power and Obama’s personal sphere. Within the framework of interforum she will hold a masterclass entitled “Hope Hall. Up Close with Barack Obama's Videographer”. It will address the topic of fake news and explores how to respond to it with authenticity. - Link

The Quay Brothers in Film and at interforum

World-renowned stop motion animation artists The Quay Brothers have been making masterful puppet animation for fifty years, creating darkly surreal worlds of wonder that are inspired by the work of Franz Kafka and Robert Walser. interforum provides a rare opportunity to experience the artists in person at “In Absentia & More. In Conversation with the Quay Brothers” where they discuss the film “In Absentia” which they made in collaboration with musician Karl-Heinz Stockhausen. - Link – Complementary to their interforum talk, interfilm will also show a retrospective film program entitled “Quay Brothers”, which presents a selection of their extraordinary short films. - Link

Jan Harlan, Stanley Kubrick’s legendary producer

From “Barry Lyndon” (1975) to “Eyes Wide Shut”, Jan Harlan produced numerous Stanley Kubrick films – including “Shining” and “Full Metal Jacket” - and will share valuable advice to creative professionals at interfilm. As legendary producer to the late Stanley Kubrick, Harlan will draw on encouraging examples to demonstrate how to make good films with little means in the masterclass entitled “LOW BUDGET, MAXIMUM CREATIVITY. Jan Harlan on the art of shortfilm production”. - Link

“King of Animation” Bill Plympton

Bill Plympton is a significant representative of the animation filmmaking world who is known for his distinctive drawing style and grim humour.  After his application to Disney was rejected, 16-year-old Plympton decided to take his career in his own hands and drew dozens of animated films. At interforum he will be giving a masterclass entitled “PLYMPTOONS! Bill Plympton on independent animation filmmaking” in which he will speak of his life and survival as an independent animator while also providing an insight into his current work with an exquisite film selection and live sketching session on stage.  - Link
