IndieLisboa Festival unveils 280 strong features and shorts line-up and 33 Portuguese World Premieres

The International Independent Film Festival of Lisbon - IndieLisboa (April 22- May 2) has unveiled its full line-up for its 7th edition, and will present over 100 features and 180 shorts as well as workshops, panel discussions and masterclasses.

Twelve films have been shortlisted for the main International Competition, which is reserved for first or second time directors. The line-up includes Benjamin Heisenberg's The Robber, Javier Rebollo's La mujer sin piano, Martijn Maria Smits C'est Deja L'ete and the World Premiere of Pedro Caldas Civil War.

Opening the festival will be Fantasia Lusitana in the presence of the director João Canijo.

Forty local productions (10 features and 23 shorts) will have their world premiere at the festival which is also has market screenings for Portuguese films known as Lisbon Screening for professionals. Several foreign sales executives, distributors and festival programmers have confirmed their attendance.

The Official Programme also includes, the Observatory section, the Emerging Cinema, the Independent Hero which is focusing on the highly praised 40 years Forum of Berlinale program, and the World Pulse section which gets an extra boost this year since it turned into a competitive section. Side sections are the IndieMusic section, the Director's cut and the Special Screenings that mainly includes the most recent Portuguese films. 

Visitors include Heddy Honigmann, Ben Rivers since both have retrospectives of their work playing at the festival, while the latter will form part of the International Jury of Short films. They will be accompanied by Samuel Maoz, Angela Schanelec (TBC), Philippe Van Leeuw (The Day God Walked Away). Other guests to visit the festival include actor/director Valérie Donzelli (The Queen of Hearts), Ben and Joshua Safdie (Go get some Rosemary aka Daddy Longlegs), Luca Guadagnino (Io Sono l'amore), Martijn Maria Smits (C'est Deja L'ete), Matthew Porterfield (Putty Hill), Alejo Moguillansky (Castro).

The five-member International Jury, set to award the festivals Grand Prize of the City of Lisbon for features, backed by 15,000 euros, comprises among its members the French actress/director/producer Eva Truffaut, the Portuguese director Miguel Gomes, the American film critic Robert Koehler, the German programmer of Forum (Berlinale) Birgit Kohler and the Turkish producer Nadir Operli.

 

The three-member International Jury, set to award for festival's Grand Prize for Shorts, backed by 5,000 euros, comprises among its members the French director/actress Caroline Deruas, the Portuguese director João Salaviza (Palme d'Or winner 2009) and the British director Ben Rivers.
