Golden Calf for the Culture Award goes to Doreen Boonekamp

During the Gala of the Dutch Film at the 29th Netherlands Film Festival, on Friday 2 October, departing director Doreen Boonekamp (1968) was honoured with the Golden Calf for the Culture Award 2009. The prize was presented by chairwoman of the board Jeltje van Nieuwenhoven. The Golden Calf for the Culture Award is granted by the board of the Foundation Netherlands Film Festival to a person or organisation that made an important contribution to the Dutch film culture.

Doreen Boonekamp graduated from the Utrecht Academy of Arts in 1992 and completed her Public Administration studies in 1996 at the University of Amsterdam. Doreen Boonekamp was the festival’s director since 2002. In addition, she plays an important role in the development of the Dutch film culture. Boonekamp started her career in 1990 with the Dutch Film Days. She also worked for the Cinemart of the IFFR and for Balicum Film & TV in Denmark and held administrative posts at various cultural organisations. Under her management, the NFF has grown into an event of national renown.

In May 2009, she received the Culture Prize of the City of Utrecht and at the opening night of the Netherlands Film Festival, minister Plasterk decorated her as Companion of the Order of Orange-Nassau.
