Filmmaker Claire Denis, Maître du Réel of this edition, will give an Online Masterclass on Wednesday 29 April at 15:00. Moderated by Lionel Baier (ECAL) and Émilie Bujès (Visions du Réel). A chance for the public to (re)discover the work of this remarkable director.
The Masterclass will be given in French, and streamed live on the Festival's website and Facebook page.
In association with ECAL and Cinémathèque suisse.
Beyond the documentaries that she has directed, Claire Denis, in her fictional or even her science-fiction works, maintains in a personal and delicate manner, a recurring relationship to “the real”. By allowing the necessary space to account for the voids and the hollows, in order to render what the acting or the staging are unable to express in the tempo of the editing, or in the exploration of bodies and desire, her fiction swells with the substance of reality. Using a tangible fact as a starting point, Claire Denis weaves cinematographic objects that are both modern and adventurous, joyously hesitating between formal austerity and euphoric sensuality.
Some titles of her filmography are available online until 13 June.

Renowned director and cinematographer, Peter Mettler profoundly influenced documentary writing in the 2000s. His hybrid work explores the limits of human perception without any predetermined script and according to an associative process that wanders about along the borders of essay, documentary and fiction.
The films of the retrospective are available online until 2 May.
In association with Doc Alliance.

Friday 1 May, 22:00
Peter Mettler will propose a live visual mix with to the audio recordings of YoshtoYoshto, previously performed together live on stage with anthropologist Jeremy Narby (The Cosmic Serpent) and musician Franz Treichler (The Young Gods). To compose this "live divination", the three artists have drawn their inspiration from the Amazonian Yaminuaha people’s metaphorical language, creating an improvisation that describes our world, its ambiguities and its interactions.
Before that on-line performance, Peter Mettler will have a short discussion with Jean Perret and Emmanuel Chicon and will demonstrate MIXXA, the software used for this, created with TouchDesigner.
