Thursday, October 23, 2008 at the “Festival Kick-Off”, BHERC will honor Black Directors of Photography as a part of its Great Day in Black Hollywood at Paramount Pictures. This historic gathering of Black Directors of Photography will honor the likes of pioneering Director of Photography, Joe Wilcots, whose work includes Roots, Bill Cosby: Himself and Matlock to name a few

The Friday, October 24, 2008 Opening Night Reception will honor Regina Jones, Founder and Publisher of Soul Magazine (Lifetime Achievement Award): Actor and Humanitarian, William Allen Young (President’s Award): Veteran Producer, Charles Floyd Johnson (Ivan Dixon Award of Achievement): Community Activist and Watts Coffee House Owner, Desiree Edwards (Community Service Award): Acclaimed Animator, Lyndon Barrois (Award of Excellence) and Corporate Executive, Gloria Pualani (Corporate Partner Award).

On Saturday, October 25 and Sunday October 26, 2008 this year’s festival will feature more than forty short films and documentaries from around the country, including the West Coast premiere of “Larry the Actor” a profound documentary that showcases the ups and downs of a Black actor in Hollywood. Seminars and panels featuring distinguished industry professionals will also be offered.

Founded in 1996 by Sandra Evers-Manly, the Black Hollywood Education and Resource Center is a nonprofit, public benefit organization designed to advocate, educate, research, develop, and preserve the history and future of Blacks in film and television. Through film festivals, award ceremonies, book signings, script readings, contests, scholarships, other programs and special events, BHERC recognizes the contributions of Black men and women in front of and behind the scenes in the entertainment industry.
