FOCAL International announces list of nominees, Senna receiving 3 nominations

Ninth Annual Awards celebrate the best in the world of footage

FOCAL International, the international Federation of Commercial Audio-visual Libraries, has now announced the shortlist of nominations for the ninth annual FOCAL International awards in association with AP Archive. The nominations are diverse in terms of both geography and subject matter with projects telling stories that range from politics and war to F1 racing and football.

The BAFTA-winning documentary Senna (Universal Pictures/Working Title (UK)) has been nominated in three categories, while Queen - Days of Our Lives (Globe Productions (UK)) has been nominated in two categories. BBC Entertainment dominates the category Best Use of Footage in an Entertainment or Drama Production, and there are strong contenders from France and the Netherlands in the Restoration categories and also in the category Best Use of Footage on Non-television Platforms.

"We've had a wonderful response for this year's awards, with more than 180 submissions from 18 countries; from Lebanon, Martinique and Thailand as well as across Western and Eastern Europe, the USA, Canada and Australia," said Julie Lewis, General Manager, FOCAL International. "The quality of entries is exceptionally high, giving the judges an unenviable task to choose between them."

The winners will be revealed at the gala award ceremony on 2 May 2012 at the Lancaster London Hotel. The FOCAL International Awards in association with AP Archive, now in their ninth year, celebrate the best use of archive footage material in a variety of genres, and also recognise the researchers, technicians and producers that access, maintain and use this precious resource. Tickets for the award ceremony are now on sale at http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?et=1109531226770&s=1316&e=001qgmZKR9INmHFl_ESCLMiAiZRW8A_iBHHBX4gtC_5SnlmNedHG7cKbaGT7VUUKR8bO1OnVEuQQ_BTerFB0ZHl13C9GA4Zd5Hp8qso8-6V_GmLbi0si-rzoeyYnNlwJQetv39YSrGkRKUl6To2ca4XtExCeGStNNRAL1dVums0952ovvcScySjFtGagHJR5QHCmZhOT5c3w_uwnIuIduhw-viL0jihbqtGOSGo8_PMix22vlk9yar0Hg==
