Craic/"good time" Festival to showcase celtic shorts & music

The Fleadh Foundation is gearing up for its 7th annual A WEE CRAIC FESTIVAL that showcases the best of award-winning short films and music from Celtic Isles and from local musicians of Celtic heritage. The festival promises to deliver a night of craic – the Irish word for “a good time.”

The films, selected from the prestigious Galway Fleadh Festival, encompass a wide range of genres, from animation to live action to comedies. A Wee Craic is a unique platform for both Irish and Irish-Americans to display entertaining and innovative short films. A WEE CRAIC is a one-night offshoot of the larger three-day music and film festival The CRAIC held every March in NYC.

The event also features live acoustic sets from musicians from all over the Celtic Diaspora. Bringing her unique take on soul, Laura Izibor, Meteor Award winner and Atlantic Records artist, will headline the event. Also scheduled to perform are Mr. North, Dan Donnelly, Michael McGlone, and Brendan O’Shea.

Held at DUMBO’s Powerhouse Arena, A Wee Craic combines great film and live music to benefit the Irish Labor Immigration Reform (ILIR).

“With the Irish’s love of film and music – not to mention a good time – this event is a great way to benefit the ILIR,” said Fleadh Foundation CEO and Executive Director Terence Mulligan.

The Fleadh Foundation (FF) designs and produces A WEE CRAIC, annually presenting Irish cinematic and musical culture to the New York City and tri-state region. The Foundation’s board members include Ed Burns, Liam Neeson, and Denis Leary. Speaker Christine C. Quinn and Senator Marty Golden are scheduled to speak, with local Irishmen and board members Aidan Quinn and Kevin Dillon scheduled to attend.

Festival attendees may even be able to continue the “good time” after the festival ends with a “Win a Trip” to Ireland contest. The event - free with donations at the door – is September 22 at Powerhouse Arena, 37 Main St. in DUMBO.
