CinEast festival Luxembourg gears up for the 12th edition!

 

The 12th edition of CinEast (Central and Eastern European Film Festival in Luxembourg), held from 3 to 20 October 2019 will present nearly 120 screenings of 65 features and around 50 short films during the festival’s 18 days. The complete programme as well as the films in competition, jury members and events highlights can now be found on the festival’s website www.cineast.lu.

The festival opens with the Ukrainian film My Thoughts Are Silent by Antonio Lukich, the winner of the Special Jury Prize at this year’s Karlovy Vary IFF, on 3 October at Luxembourg’s Neimënster cultural centre. The theme of the 12th edition is “Down with Walls” reflecting on the 30 years’ anniversary since the fall of the Iron Curtain.

The 7 films in competition are: Cat in the Wall by Mina Mileva and Vesela Kazakova, Corpus Christi by Jan Komasa, Oleg by Juris Kursietis, Open Door by Florenc Papas, Nova Lituania by Karolis Kaupinis, Scandinavian Silence by Martti Helde and Stitches by Miroslav Terzic.

The International Jury, which will award the Grand Prix and the Special Jury Prize, will be presided by the renowned French director and scriptwriter Jacques Doillon (Le jeune Werther, Rodin) and will include the Italian programmer Renata Santoro (Venice Days), the Romanian director Marius Olteanu (Monsters.), the Luxembourgish director and producer Adolf El Assal (Sawah) and the Luxembourgish actress Sophie Mousel. The Press Jury, awarding the Critics’ Prize, is composed of the journalists France Clarinval (RTL), Marc Trappendreher (Lëtzebuerger Land) and Cristóbal Soage (Cineuropa). The 12th edition of CinEast presents films from 20 countries of the former Eastern bloc screened at major venues in the city of Luxembourg (Cinémathèque, Neimënster, Ciné Utopia) as well as other towns in the country (Vianden, Esch sur Alzette, Dudelange etc.) and across the border (Saarbrücken in Germany). The festival will welcome around 40 guests, including Krystyna Janda, Juris Kursietis, Lendita Zeqiraj, Marija Kavtaradze, Wojciech Smarzowski etc., and the programme features also 7 debates (on Youth&Social Media, Breaking Your Own Walls, Alternative Lifestyles, 30 Years of Transformation, Skateboarding Culture, Independent Travelling, LGBT Rights), 5 concerts (including the Opening gig of Shantel & Bucovina Club Orkestar), an extensive photography exhibitionDown with Walls!”, a Focus on Lithuania, youth programmes, school screenings, special evenings and more.
