CHICKEN WINGS wins German Short-Film Contest at exground filmfest 21

The audience in the sold-out Caligari FilmBühne in Wiesbaden made its decision and crowned CHICKEN WINGS as the winner film of the 16th German Short-Film Award at exground filmfest 21. Director Pauline Kortmann was excited about the vote and the prize money of 3.000 Euros, handed over by the Wiesbaden head of the Cultural Offices Rita Thies. ROBIN by Hanno Olderdissen came in second and therefore won the prize money of 2000 Euros, sponsored by the Wiesbadener Kinofestival e. V. The 1000 Euros for third place at the German Short-Film Contest went to Jim Lacy and Kathrin Albers for their short film DIE SCHIEFE BAHN – also sponsored by the Cultural Offices of the state capital Wiesbaden.

In the course of the German Short-Film Contest, the winners of further exground filmfest contests were announced as well: The international ON-VIDEO Contest and the prize money of 1500 Euros, sponsored by student’s magazine STUZ was won by the German entry 16:9 FULL HD by Marion Pfaus. In addition, the professional jury gave an commendatory mention to Swedish entry VALBORG – THE RITE OF SPRING by Sanna Lenken. The winner of the Wiesbaden-Special – Short-Film Contest was Tim Bollinger with BETWEEN. The recipient of the Hessian University Film Award received the most audience votes and the prize money of 500 Euros plus certificate, sponsored by the Wiesbadener Kurier newspaper and handed over by editor Gerd Klee.

In the course of the award ceremony, the decision of the Wiebaden youth jury regarding winner of the youth days – International Youth Film Contest was announced: The prize money of 2500 Euros, sponsored by the state capital Wiesbaden, went to (unfortunately already departed) director Ed Radtke for his film THE SPEED OF LIFE. One week before, the class 9c from the Helene-Lange-School had won the 4th Wiesbaden Youth-Film Contest with their film trilogy DIE 3 KLEINEN SÜNDEN. They were the audience’s favourites and could take home with them the prize money of 450 Euros, sponsored by the Hessische Landeszentrale für politische Bildung. On Tuesday, November 18, 2008, the winner of the golden exground cucumber was elected: Carsten Völkel coukld take home the lovingly designed trophy and 50 Euros for his small masterpiece KAPITÄN KLAPPSPATEN. Our new contest BETTING ON SHORTS saw the German entry TROTZDEM DANKE by Mischa Leinkauf and Matthias Wermke winning not only in Wiesbaden, but at other European festival locations as well. The contest was screened in numerous European cities simultaneously and was carried out this year under the motto „Money, Money, Money“.

After the award ceremony, the foyer of the Caligari FilmBühne saw extensive partying, dancing, and toasting the success of exground filmfest 21: The organizers in Wiesbaden and Frankfurt am Main in the Instituto Cervantes counted 12.000 viewers. The appropriate beats were delivered by Wiesbadener DJ Dr. Love, who turned the foyer into a proper cauldron.
