Campus MovieFest (CMF) returns to Hollywood with more films...

Campus MovieFest (CMF), the world’s largest student film festival, announced today it is returning to Hollywood, CA, for its annual International Grand Finale (IGF) film and music festival from June 23-26. CMF is celebrating its 10th anniversary since being founded by four Emory University students, providing nearly 500,000 participants along the way with laptops, camcorders, and training to create short movies and music for free.

CMF hosted red carpet finales at each participating campus, and invited the best of the best student filmmakers and musicians from across the globe to Hollywood. IGF features a full slate of events, including screenings of more than 200 student short movies, workshops led by industry leaders, advance studio screenings, networking opportunities, a College Battle of the Bands finale concert, and more, culminating with a red-carpet awards ceremony at the Steven J. Ross Theater on the Warner Bros. Studio lot on Saturday, June 25.

Celebrity presenters will announce this year’s awards including Best Picture, Best Comedy, Best Drama, six special CMF Golden Tripod Awards, and the fourth annual Elfenworks Social Justice Category. The Elfenworks Social Justice Category invites participants to create short movies or music relating to poverty or inequality in America, with the winning teams earning $20,000 in cash grants to continue making a positive impact on the world.

“As we began planning this year’s CMF International Grand Finale, we knew we’d have to make this tenth anniversary of CMF a weekend that our students will never forget,” said David Roemer, Co-founder of Campus MovieFest. “They’ve amazed us this year with the quality of their movies and music, and we’re confident we’re going to amaze them with the lineup of industry leaders, venues, and special events.”

This year’s events also feature CMF 3D, the first 3D student film festival to provide students with the latest Panasonic 3D camcorders, training, and support to create their own 3D short movies. The entries are judged by industry leaders and screened at the International Grand Finale at Panasonic Hollywood Lab. The winning teams will earn cash scholarships from the International 3D Society plus the latest 3D gear.

The public is also invited to attend the College Battle of the Bands (CBOB) National Finale, on Friday, June 24. The top bands selected during regional competitions will compete live for prizes and recognition at The Echo in Hollywood. Past CBOB participants include Power, who took home the title in 2010, as well as Mike Posner and Local Natives.

Last year’s CMF events took place at Wynn Las Vegas and past CMF events have welcomed industry guests including Amy Ryan, Mark Boal, Michael Giacchino, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Brett Ratner, Patton Oswalt, John Cho, Jason Sudeikis, Peter Farrelly and many more. This year’s special presenters will be announced in June.
