Better Housekeeping - Slamdance best opening now

SLAMDANCE ON THE ROAD PRESENTS FRANK NOVAK’S BETTER HOUSEKEEPING AT THE LOS ANGELES ARCHLIGHT OPENING FRIDAY, JULY 16, 2004

Audiences will finally have a chance to see Frank Novak’s award winning and critically acclaimed feature BETTER HOUSEKEEPING which opens at the ArcLight in Los Angeles, Friday, July 16, 2004. Novak’s comedic, humanizing portrait of working class domestic life gone awry is being distributed by newly formed Slamdance On The Road. Originally, The Shooting Gallery agreed to distribute the film but with the demise of the company and another acquisition attempt falling apart at Universal the film was left orphaned until Slamdance came along.

Shot in «reality» television style by Alex Vendler (KURT & COURTNEY, THE BIBLE & GUN CLUB), BETTER HOUSEKEEPING takes us play by play into the escalating drama and comedy surrounding the disintegration of Don (Bob Miller) and Donatella’s (Petra Wilson) marriage. While loud-mouthed Don revels as the reigning, outof-control king of beer guzzling, action figure collecting buddies, Italian immigrant, Donatella goes through a subtle breakdown that escapes the understanding of her new, middle class lover Marion (Tracey Adams). The battle between husband and wife gets really heated when Don builds a wall down the middle of the house to separate their lives as they await divorce proceedings. The «white trash» WAR OF THE ROSES turns destructive and poor judgement abounds when a rocket launcher enters the equation.

«In BETTER HOUSEKEEPING we offer a peek inside the world of an indigenous strain of the American intellect. Within this world, there is found the DNA that has helped create the regressive, reactionary and mindless actions that America is displaying at present», says Executive Producer Jay Novak.

BETTER HOUSEKEEPING won the Slamdance Festival Grand Jury Prize and was an official Critics Week selection in the Cannes Film Festival where The Shooting Gallery first acquired the film on the eve of its premiere. Roger Ebert calls the film «A treasure». Variety hails BETTER HOUSEKEEPING «A triumph».

Slamdance On The Road is a spin-off entity of the Slamdance Film Festival, a successful independent film festival held in Park City, Utah since 1995. Slamdance On The Road was created to support independent filmmakers year-round with a commercial enterprise that brings them financial reward by exhibiting their films in theaters across the country.
