Awards of the 17th Geneva International Festival of Oriental Film (FIFOG)The 17th Geneva International Festival of Oriental Film (FIFOG) took place from June 13 to 19 in Geneva and its municipalities. This year's edition is placed under the sign of Freedom...in the feminine way. It is chaired by the Lebanese writer Joumana Haddad. Even if the heat wave has had an impact on the movement of festival-goers, the attendance of the public has been very honorable. The public has rediscovered the joy and pleasure of watching films and exchanging with filmmakers and guests who arrived in Geneva with difficulty, often after a long journey.
A rich program that celebrates freedom... in the feminine way This edition presented about fifty films, 23 of which were directed by women and 27 by men. More than forty guests took part in this new vintage. The various debates, exchanges, artistic performances, meetings and educational screenings also took place and contributed to forge links, reduce distances and deepen the theme of Freedom... for women. For their part, the three juries emphasized the quality, originality and relevance of the films presented. Indeed, the topics addressed, sometimes dramatic, sometimes poetic, show the diversity of film production in the East and remind the need not to forget certain dramas, such as those affecting the Yazidis, veiled by the burning news. Following this, they revealed their respective choices.
