All time Top 10 films showing at Cardiff Fest

The Cardiff Screen Festival, which ran a competition in August to find out the Capital's favourite Top 10 films, has announced the results from the entries gathered, and the names of 360 films entered.
The Festival will be screening 5 of the Top 10 films at Chapter during the film festival.

From the old classics like Casablanca to modern favourites such as Donnie Darko, and from US films such as Good Fellas to European hits such as Amelie, the entries have shown that Cardiff's residents have a healthy and wide-ranging interested in films - much to the delight of the Screen Festival, which is hoping to beat last year's 32% increase in attendances.

"This is the first time that the people of Cardiff have been asked to chose their top films," said Berwyn Rowlands, Artistic Director of the Cardiff Screen Festival.

"The final list includes some very memorable screen gems. However I am confident that the Cardiff Top Ten does not finish here as debate is bound to rage throughout the city about the film that did not make the final ten. Whatever happened to Jaws and King Kong, it is absolutely outrageous that they are both not in the Top 10 - discuss!"

The Top 10 films selected are:
The Shawshank Redemption
Pulp Fiction
ET
Star Wars 4
Casablanca
Alien
Good Fellas
Moulin Rouge
Citizen Kane
and
The Englishman Who Went up a Hill and Came Down a Mountain.

The Winner of the competition prize of 2 Gold Access al Areas passes to the 10-day festival is David Thomas from Whitchurch.
"Given the dearth of quality new product from the Hollywood machine, festivals such as this are mightily important to reinvigorate interest in cinema in Wales, " said David

"I think that in conjunction with the Chapter Arts Centre and Cineworld/UGC the Festival has been doing a fine job. Last year's screening of the Parallax View and The Machinist being particular highlights - thus I am very much looking forward to this year's event."

The Festival will be screening 5 of the Top 10 films at Chapter during the film festival to include The Englishman Who Went up a Hill and Came Down a Mountain, which will be introduced by Chris Monger, the director of the film, who is originally from Taffs Well and will be visiting from New York.
