The Spanish Film Academy has nominated prison drama Celda 211 directed by Daniel Monzón with 16 nominations for this year’s Goya awards.Alejandro Amenabar´s Agora with 13, and nine for Fernando Trueba’s The Dancer And The Thief, (which has been selected as Spain’s option for the foreign-language Oscar) andJuan José Campanella´s The Secret In Their Eyes .


Other nominees include Daniel Sanchez Arevalo’s comedy Gordos, starring Raul Arevalo and Antonio de la Torre, which picked up eight nominations, Sigrid Monleon’s drama El Cónsul De Sodoma and Pedro Almodovar’s Broken Embraces with five, Alvaro Pastor and Antonio Naharro’s Yo,también with four, Jorge Blanco and Javier Abad’s animationPlanet 51 with two and only one nomination for Jaume Balaguero and Paco Plaza’s popular horror [Rec] 2, Steven Soderbergh’s Che: Part 2 and Francis Ford Coppolla’s Tetro whith a great Maribel Verdu defending the best actress.
All Academy members with voting rights vote in all categories, in two rounds: in the first round they choose four finalists for each award, and in the second they choose one of the four.

The Spanish statuettes, small bronze busts of the artist Francisco de Goya, will be handed out to winners during a televised awards show on February 14th.

As a preview to that event, next weekend the Academia de lasArtes y las Ciencias Cinematográficas de España

(Academy of Cinematography Arts and Sciences) will held its traditional reception to honor the nominees,and we´ll be attending and reporting to you all about it.
