15 Films from the 39th Istanbul Film Festival Programme will make their Turkey premieres online

15 recent films from the programme of the postponed 39th Istanbul Film Festival will make their Turkey premieres on 15-29 May.

The 39th Istanbul Film Festival, organised by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV) with the support of Republic of Turkey Ministry of Culture and Tourism, was postponed to a later date due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The largest, most established, and most influential film festival in Turkey, Istanbul Film Festival will screen a selection of 15 recent films online between 15 and 29 May.

Held in April since 1984, the Istanbul Film Festival is a pivotal event for the city’s prominence on the international festival map. Not wanting to stay further away from its audience during this period, the festival is to screen 15 recent and award-winning films online. The Online Screenings available only in Turkey will be launched on

A film will launch each day until 29 May and will be available to streaming. The films will be streamed in their original language with Turkish subtitles. Tickets will be available on 14 May at 10.30 to festival audiences in Turkey only.

Established in 1982, the Istanbul Film Festival has proudly grown from a six-film section incorporated in the all-encompassing Istanbul Festival to a stand-alone, FIAPF-accredited international event—the largest and most influential film festival in Turkey. The festival each year features around 180 films in thematic or curated sections, and five competitions–International Competition, Human Rights in Cinema Competition, National Competition, National Short Film Competition, and National Documentary Competition. With 110,000 admissions (2019), it is considered the largest film festival in Turkey.
