14th Edition of Kino Otok – Isola Cinema: "This is not a Festival, but a Warm Embrace."

The 14th International Film Festival Kino Otok – Isola Cinema will be held tonight at the Manzioli open-air cinema. While hiding from the rain at the House of Culture, Marco Piccareda, author of Città Giardino, welcomed the audience with the sentence: "This is not a festival, but a warm embrace."

Tonight we will bid farewell from the 14th warm embrace of films with the City of the Sun by Rati Oneli, that among the ruins of an almost abandoned mining town in Georgia, directs a glimpse into the lives, dreams and fates of unusal heroes. The final film will be introduced by the short film Ships Still Don't Come Ashore by Ivan Ramljak. Before that, the large screens of Isola will gleam through the last festival day.

The Sunday programme started with the film Bikini Moon by Milčo Manchevski and continued with the film ★ of the Isola's guest Johann Lurf, who will present his chronological series of clips of stars from films – not film stars, but stars in the night sky, filmed from the beginnings of film history to today.

This will be followed up by Isola's new section Home, Sweet Home. Matjaž Ivanišin will present his film Playing Men, a gentle and impetuous expression and description of the fascination on playing between men in the broadest sense of the word. Afterwards, the film programme will be wrapped in the sea with Andrej Zdravič's programme of short films, Ocean Cantos. About his creative work he wrote that these are experiental films in which the protagonist is nature itself.

In Silvan bay, the Isola section dedicated to Silvan Furlan, one of the first Isola's godparents and the first director of the Slovenian Cinematheque, we will experience the Tokyo Story by Yasujiro Ozu at Art Kino Odeon. We will see the fundamental Ozu's work that has been celebrated all over the world and it is considered the commendable example of his original cinematography and one of the most important works in the history of the film.

This morning Submarine – Otok for children began with a special projection of a set of pre-school children’s films, collected under the name Fresh Film Catch: Our Youngest Ones. There was also a workshop in collaboration with the association for animal assisted therapy Ambasadorji nasmeha society, where we met real therapeutic dogs. The afternoon will continue with Fresh Film Catch, films made by the preschoolers, created at film workshops, clubs and camps. The House of Culture will be screening the film Little Grey Fergie: Full Throttle by Pedro Hamdahl Naess.

The Submarine will wave goodbye with a funny and inspiring film Hobbyhorse Revolution, one of three films among which young jury members have been choosing at this year’s EFA Young Audience Awards. Before the screening there will be a workshop Movement in Cinema with Nataša Brecelj from Atelje Brecelj, where we will be able to test wooden stick horses, same as the ones used in Finland.

At dusk, under the starry sky, the Lighthouse will wish us goodnight the last time this year with the musical event and performance of CLZ/Independent Coastal Radio.

The Isola films will continue their journey in Ljubljana as Otok in Ljubljana, where the screenings will take place at the Slovenian Cinematheque and Kinodvor.
