10th Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin

10th Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin
November 15th to 27th 2005, Paris

From the 15th to 27th November 2005, the 10th edition of Rencontres internationales Paris/Berlin, a festival of experimental cinema and contemporary audio-visual art,
takes place at:
- the Jeu de Paume,
- the Entrepôt,
- the Point Ephémère,
- the ENSBA (Ecole nationale supérieure des beaux-arts)
- the Swedish Cultural Centre,
- and in other key Paris locations

In the presence of artists and directors from all over the world, the festival's 10th edition offers an international programming, dedicated to experimental film, documentary, fiction, video-art and multimedia creation. 250 works, originating from 70 countries, screening work from internationally renowned directors alongside work of talented young artists and lesser-known directors. The quality of the festival's programming, recognized by professionals, cultural institutions and the public alike, makes this event one of the most important contemporary film and audio-visual events in Paris.

In parallel and in testimony to the vivacity of contemporary audio-visual creation, the 10th edition of Rencontres internationales Paris/Berlin proposes a veritable intercultural forum, comprising of numerous organised artist discussions and debates chaired by high profile personalities from the art world, institute directors and speakers from emerging art organisations.

The focus of this year's programme is accessibility, aiming to provoke dialogue and exchange between artists, professionals and the general public. The festival turns around two cycles:

Film and video screenings (short; medium and full lenght films: fiction, documentary, experimental film and video). With notably:
> Jon Jost's 'Home Coming', selected at last year's Festival of Venice.
> A première of Harun Farocki's most recent documentary
· Pedro Costa, a French première of his latest work screened in his presence.
> Christoph Girardet and Volker Schreiner, French premières screened in their presence.
> Johan Grimonprez's homage to Alfred Hitchcock.
> Mike Hoolboom, a French première of 'Public lighting'.
> Internationally recognised, pioneering video artist, Steina, a European première of her latest work.
> Emmanuelle Antille, the Paris première of her latest film.
> A selection of work chosen by Danièle Huillet and Jean-Marie Straub.
> Several international focus, profiling work from several countries, such as Holland, Portugal, Spain, Canada, the United Kingdom and a selection of rare videos from China, Kazakhstan, Korea and Iran.
Video and multimedia exhibition (performance art, concerts, installations and CDrom). With notably:
> An video exhibition bringing together work from international artists, with notably a world première of work by Antonio Muntadas, work by Tony Cokes, Peter Rose and Turner prize nominee Richard Billingham.
> Several multi-media concerts.
> A 'videotheque' brings together the totality of the festival's programme, plus an area dedicated to documentary, with a focus on creative documentary.
> A selection of digital art: net art, CDroms and DVDroms.

During 12 days, the festival creates a veritable intercultural forum, where numerous artists offer accounts of the cultural environment and artistic pratices in their own country. Through its challenging yet accessible programme, Rencontres internationales Paris/Berlin hopes to provoke reflection and discussion on contemporary audio-visual
culture and creation.
