Documenta Madrid

This year, Documenta Madrid is featuring the presence of Peter Hutton (Detroit, Michigan, 1944), important figure in the North American landscape tradition and a representative of the best documentary film-experimental,author of a brief filmography, always in 16mm, generally without dialogue as well as in black and white.

The Image and its Eclipse will be the title of his Master Class which Peter Hutton will impart the 14th of May, at 12:00 a.m., at the Cine Estudio – Círculo de Bellas Artes, within the framework of Documenta Madrid 10.

For forty years, Peter Hutton has been creating a brief filmography (barely five hours of total footage) characterized by its beauty and authenticity. His works are those of a traveller, quite and contemplative, lonely and passionate as Jean Vigo or Maya Deren, the independent spirit and virgin smile always alert of the world, diarist follower of tradition just like his mentor Jonas
Mekas.

At the same time, Documenta Madrid will dedicate this year a retrospective on Peter Hutton. It will be supervised by Peter Hutton himself, it is the first review of his filmography in, and it is one of the most important presentations of this works up till now in Europe.

This retrospective of the works of Peter Hutton can be seen in the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Sabatini room)from the 12th to the 16th of May. Later, this cycle will travel to
A Coruña, where it will be projected at the CGAI between the 20th and the 31st of May.
