First highlights of DOK.fest München: announcing jury, focus on the works of Heddy Honigmann...

Dokfest_Musikfilmpreis_jury.jpg

This year's first festival highlights reveal the jury members of the German Documentary Film Music Award 2019 and a focus on the works of Dutch filmmaker Heddy Honigmann as part of the 2019 retrospective. Moreover, we welcome the

DOK.education, in cooperation with the Globate platform, is organising a media competence day on the subject of social media and globalisation, to which we cordially invite all school classes. The film THE CLEANERS will be shown, followed by a film talk and an interactive smartphone survey.

Retrospective 2019
Heddy Honigmann – Poet of the Moment

Heddy Honigmann contrasts the fast pace of time with the magic of the moment. The Peruvian-born filmmaker always focuses on the people who do not seem to have a great history, but great inner conflicts. She stubbornly gives them her attention until they begin to tell: Of their memories and their lives.

"I would never betray them," she says about her protagonists. Voyeurism is alien to her, in her films we don't look at people, but through them and with them at us. Heddy Honigmann's gaze is deeply humanistic: she celebrates hard life in all its beauty.

At the 2019 Retrospective six documentary films will provide an insight into the work of this outstanding Dutch filmmaker:

BUDDY (Netherlands 2018, 86 min, English subtitles)
CRAZY (Netherlands 1999, 97 min., English subtitles)
FOREVER (Netherlands 2006, 95 min., English subtitles)
METAL AND MELANCHOLY (Netherlands 1993, 80 min., English subtitles)
OBLIVION (Netherlands, Germany 2008, 92 min., English subtitles)
THE UNDERGROUND ORCHESTRA (Netherlands, France 1997, 108 min., English subtitles)

9th to 13th May 2019

What is my #reality?
Media Literacy Day on Social Media and Globalization

THE_CLEANERS_4.jpg

Social media plays a decisive role in the digital everyday life of young people. Through the documentary THE CLEANERS, students are introduced to the topics of online censorship and filter bubbles, at a pedagogically guided film screening.

The film follows so-called "content moderators" who delete images and videos on the Internet on behalf of Facebook and Co. We learn what global effects this selection can have. Ultimately, it is about nothing less than the question of how our reality is shaped. Based on the film, the young people will be sensitized to globalization issues and learn to recognize the effects of social media.

A project class of the Munich Theodolinden-Gymnasium, which has been dealing with the topic in depth since March, under the guidance of an expert in digital education, will present the results of its work. Together with an interactive survey, in which the pupils participate live on site via smartphone, this forms the basis for a discussion about their own use of social media.
