DC ShortsRecently named the Coolest Short Film Festival by Moviemaker Magazine, the DC Shorts Film Festival and Screenplay Competition is the largest short film event on the East Coast of the United States. 15th Annual DC Shorts Film Festival September 7 – 16, 2018DC Shorts is proud to present a different kind of screenwriting competition. A panel of readers consisting of filmmakers, screenwriters, and critics review and provide condensed coverage (feedback) for scripts of 15 pages or less. Six finalists are invited to attend DC Shorts and, with the assistance of local directors and agents, cast a live table reading of the script from a bank of actors. The readings are performed in front of an audience, who vote on their favorites. These votes, along with the scores of the readers, determine a competition winner. You must submit for the Screenplay Competition at dcshorts.com. ![]() Call for Entries: 2012 DC Shorts Film Festival and Screenwriting CompetitionsDC Shorts showcases the largest audience-driven collection of short films in the USA. Now in our 9th year, we expect hundreds of filmmakers and thousands of audience members mix, mingle and explore the world of short cinema. DC Shorts is unique among film festivals, as we entries to read the feedback and scores from the judging panels — a point which impressed MovieMaker Magazine to name us as “one of 20 festivals worth an entry fee,” and “one of the leading film festivals” in the country — year after year!
The DC Shorts Film Festival (September 6-16, 2012) turns the spotlight on truly independent short films, created by new and established filmmakers in an era when the art of filmmaking is opening to all. We select films of every genre and niche for our competition screenings — with a special focus on films created by metropolitan Washington, DC-based directors and writers. After each screening, filmmakers have the opportunity to speak to the audience as part of a moderated panel. ---> EARLYBIRD DEADLINE: JANUARY 30 (our lowest entry fee prices!) http://dcshorts.com/the-films/
The DC Shorts Screenplay Competition (October 2012) is a very different kind of screenwriting competition. A panel of judges consisting of filmmakers, screenwriters and critics will review and provide coverage (feedback) for scripts of 15 pages or less. 5-7 finalists will be featured during ScriptDC — the region’s largest screenwriting conference — where their scripts will be read in front of a live audience — and one will walk away with $2,000 to shoot their project! If the script is shot and completed by the deadline, it will be automatically included as an official selection for the 2013 DC Shorts Film Festival. ---> EARLYBIRD DEADLINE: MARCH 31 (our lowest entry fee prices!) http://dcshorts.com/the-scripts/
