Only a few people can make a living in art and culture, even with incentive laws and government edicts (like in Brazil) such a task sometimes seems impossible. Thus, our work is a profession of love, cooperation and having to deal with all kinds of people. It's a delicate dance, and we often come across people who drop into our lives with a tremendous amount of ego, who only care about themselves and their 'navel-gazing', putting aside dignity and character, just to get their own needs fulfilled. But thankfully, there are those who really are there for a fair exchange, to grow together in this often hostile environment.

On this positive note, I'd like to spotlight the filmmaker and actress Dawn Westlake . This American living in the mecca of world cinema, Los Angeles, is also a warrior of independent filmmaking . We met because Dawn is a habitué of international festivals, and this is because her films are of very high quality and participate in the most renowned film festivals worldwide. Besides being a great actress, she also directs and produces her works through her company, Ron de Cana Productions , Inc - To date, she has made 15 short films and has more than forty awards in her portfolio.
