Matteo Garrone’s Dogman will be honored as European Movie of the Year at the 2018 Capri, Hollywood

Matteo Garrone’s Dogman will be honored as European Movie of the Year at the 2018 Capri, Hollywood  -- The International Film Festival, it was announced here today by the board of the Capri in the World Institute. Garrone, whose film is representing Italy in the Oscars’® Best Foreign Language Film category will be presented with the award during the 23rd edition of the Capri, International Festival which takes place from December 26, 2018 to January 2, 2019.

"Garrone’s movie, starring the extraordinary Marcello Fonte who won the Best Actor Award at this year’s Cannes Film Festival was an unanimous choice  by the Capri in the World Institute, and we hope that on January 22, 2019 Dogman will be an Oscar nominee,” said Lina Wertmüller, the Institute’s Honorary President.

Dogman, produced by Garrone, the Oscar-winning filmmaker Jeremy Thomas, the French film production company Le Pacte, Rai Cinema , and globally distributed by Rai Com, is inspired by a notorious crime story which took place in Rome thirty years ago. It was filmed in Italy’s Campania region. Early next year Garrone will begin working on Pinocchio with Roberto Benigni portraying the role of Geppetto.

It has previously been announced that on December 30, Eli Roth will be named “Master of Fantasy” for his latest film The House with a Clock in Its Walls starring Jack Black and Cate Blanchett. The movie will be released in Italy on December 30.

This year’s Capri, Hollywood –The International Film Festival will be chaired by the American director and screenwriter Lee Daniels, a 2010 Oscar® nominee for Precious.

The eagerly-anticipated film event, supported by Mibact and the Campania Region, will once again welcome globally renowned filmmakers and movie stars to the Gulf of Naples alongside comparable Italian artists. The Festival, which traditionally precedes and paves the way to the finale of the US awards season, is presented in collaboration with the City of Capri and the Municipality of Anacapri, as well as several private sponsors.
